New library interior gets OK from Senoia Council

Senoia’s new library will be a state-of the-art facility that will be designed to resemble an old-fashioned train depot.

The City Council heard Monday night from architect Brian Haun who outlined what the interior of the 5,100 sq.ft facility would feature. Haun said the library’s space is divided into areas for technology, books for children, young adults and adults and a multi-purpose room for civic groups to stage meetings.

The multi-purpose room and the restrooms are a separate part of the library that could be accessed after hours for meetings, Haun added.

The back part of the library will also be near a set of train tracks, so when children hear the train coming down the tracks, they could run to the window and see the train pass through the city. One resident complained the train could prove to be a distraction for tutors trying to teach students.

There will also be secluded study areas, and more than 250 sq.ft of storage space, which is far more than the closet the library staffers currently use.

Librarian Aime Scarbrough said she was happy with the interior of the facility and was anxious to see the exterior.

After the City Council signed off on the interior, lead architect Kip Oldham said the exterior designs could now be completed. He did not provide a timeline for when that portion of the project would be completed.

I read this story in the Newnan paper also and think "resident" should be ID'd. I hope it's not my crazy sister after a few. I was upset in the other article where she belittled the PTC library's fireplace as being "in the way." I think it is a nice feature an Senoia should have 1 also. Glad you didn't take the fella's concerns about a train derailment worthy of printing. When was the last train wreck in Senoia .. much less on a straight away?

this is my favorite part of that same article...

One woman at the meeting who tutors children at the library was concerned about the train windows. "I do not get a lot of time in the library with the children I'm tutoring," she said. "The last thing I would want is for them to run over to see the train."
