And survey says . . . Start school 1 week later; BoE compliesTue, 08/22/2006 - 4:55pm
By: John Thompson
Students will have until Aug. 13 next year to enjoy their summer vacation. The Fayette County Board of Education voted Monday night to start school a week later than this year. The proposal received the most votes of four options in an online survey and represents the latest date for the opening day of school in several years. Even though the school year will start later, students will still get out May 23, which is the Friday before Memorial Day. However, students will only get three days for a Thanksgiving break and the Christmas break runs from Dec. 20 through Jan. 3. Other highlights of next year’s calendar include: • Early release days on Oct. 18 and Feb. 15. • Winter break running from Feb. 18-22. • Spring break lasting from April 7-11. The second most popular calendar option also started school Aug. 13, but provide a week-long Thanksgiving break. However, the last day of school for that proposal was May 30. login to post comments |
