Fairburn festival focusing on music

The time is fast approaching for this year’s celebration of Fairburn Festival of Arts, Antiques & Music. Festival organizers said this years’ event will have an accentuated focus on local, live music and no shortage of family fun.

Timed to coincide with Fulton County Arts Council Tour de 29, Fairburn’s Tour de 29 Kickoff will begin at at the Hobgood Palmer Library at noon on Saturday, Sept. 30 and run until 6 PM. The library is located at 60 Valley View Drive. Those attending can listen to live music or try their hand at an arts and craft project followed by a poetry reading by local poets.

The festival cranks up the following weekend with live music at Casablanca and Oz Pizza restaurants on Friday, Oct. 6 from 6-9 PM. And get ready to start early Oct. 7. Fairburn’s Historic Main Street area will be the setting for the Keep South Fulton Beautiful 5K Road Race through the historic district. Registrations begin at 7 AM with the race set for 8 AM. And that is just the beginning.

The Farmer’s Market at the old depot will be open from 8 AM until 1 PM, while the food court will open at 9 AM followed by the parade at 10 AM. Arts and antiques booths will be open from 10 AM until 4 PM. This portion of the festival has been created as a juried event designed to bring together the “Best of the Best” from and arts and antiques community. From 11 AM until 4 PM, featured events will include an antique car show, Old Campbell County Courthouse tours and a children’s area. And at the same time, local and out of area bands will perform on two stages.

Festival advisor Barkley Russell said this year’s festival is focusing on music because it is the universal language. That perspective is in line with the successful music offerings enjoyed by those attending last year’s event. This year, musical entertainment is expected to include bluegrass, jazz, swing, Latin, rock. That variety of musical offerings is intended to meld with other festival attractions to make the occasion a day to remember for people of all ages.

“The musical talent at the festival will be combined with other talent in arts and crafts for the benefit of the entire family,” Russell said.

In light of those expectations, festival organizers are interested in adding to the already growing list of musicians, painters, demonstrative artists and others that would benefit from having their talents displayed. Organizers ask that those interested contact the City of Fairburn at (770) 964-2244 or visit www.fairburnfestival.org

Hi,

Are musicians still needed for the festival. We have African drumming and dancing. Is there any compensation or is the performance free? Thanks.
