Police: Mom sold drugs she bought online

A Peachtree City mother sold narcotics she had bought online in the presence of her two children ages 2 and 5 Monday at the Camden apartments, police said in court Wednesday afternoon.

Police were told that two other subjects consumed drugs at the apartment moments before police served a search warrant there, said Police Chief James Murray.

Katherine Dean-Nunez, 25, of 6202 Merrick Drive, was charged with felony counts of possession of xanax with intent to sell or distribute and possession of methamphetamine; also lodged were misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and possession of drug related objects. The latter charge stemmed from scales found in her bedroom closet along with some of the drugs which were kept in a small safe, police said.

Fayette County Magistrate Robert Ruppenthal set Dean-Nunez’s bond at $72,000 after noting that she had nothing on her prior record other than traffic charges.

Murray had asked the court to set a high enough bond to keep Dean-Nunez in jail “so she will not get back out and sell more narcotics.”

Murray said the presence of the crystal “ice” methamphetamine was potentially quite dangerous to the children because of the chemicals that enter the air when the drug is consumed.

“It’s a real danger to the children who breathe the same air,” Murray said.

The two children are now in the custody of her parents, her attorney said.

After court, Murray said police discovered that Dean-Nunez would purchase the narcotics over the Internet by using unscrupulous businesses that would dispense prescriptions without ever seeing her in person. Such incidents are a growing problem that must be addressed by the federal government, Murray said, indicating that evidence in the case would be passed along to the feds.

“It’s like ebay for drugs,” Murray said.

Police seized two computers from Dean-Nunez’s home because they were likely used to order the medication, Murray said.

Other than Dean-Nunez and her two children, no one else was living in the apartment at the time, Murray added.

You know i am reading this artical on the front page of the newspaper & I see no other than the word "MOM" wow! what a way to catch the attention of everyone viewing...Why didn't it say woman, lady, or student because to the best of my knowdledge she was all of the above. The media has a very distorted way of persenting facts and I know beyond a shadow of doubt that some of the facts in this artical are not correct (no disrespect intended). As a matter of fact they didn't even get the bond right. People believe everything they read and that's what makes this a sad world.

Why did they make a big deal about her being a MOM? Because while buying, using, and selling drugs, are all illegal, it is just so much more morally wrong when it is done in the presence of children. She exposed them to an unhealthy environment, and what kind of mothering was she doing when she was high?

Yes, to me, the worst part of her being a druggie is that she is also a MOM.

Shame on you reporters for not getting it right....instead of MOM..it should read...SCUM!

Give me a break will ya.....they cought scum selling drugs. Mom's are responsible individuals....SCUM sell drugs while parenting!

What makes a sad world is individuals like you that try to distort that fact that people like MOM..are SCUM..and need to be treated as such. Get real!! Wake up!!

Keep up the good work PTCPD!!!

I make a comment so now I'm a suspect. WHAT A JOKE....I simply was saying that I felt that people were bashing her because she was a mother. Possibly a single mother...a struggling mother aparentally in order to do what she did. To say i am junkie because I saw things a little differantly was uncalled for. I happen to be a mother myself as well as a pre-k teacher. Call P.T.C police department as a matter of fact my father has been an employee for Fayetteville for almost 30 years now. Call anybody you want. DEA, CIA, FBI, GBI, whatever you feel the need to do. I am a respectable person with a respectable family. I wasn't at all upset that she was caught. i was only reffering to the comments people were making because she was a "MOM" it just made no sence. It's ok to deal dope as long as you have no children?? How about hookers...is that ok too just as long as you are not a parent?

Why would I WANT to???? Any "Mom" that would sell drugs out of her house, with her children present, isn't anyone I would associate with.

I'm glad they arrested her and hope they throw the proverbial book at her.

Thanks to the investigators and patrol officers who were involved with this case. It looks so easy on paper, to say you caught her. I know there is much more involved than that.

As to her area of residence... Camden Apartments does not have any more calls than other areas of PTC. And at least OUR police department cares enough to go after them. It is BECAUSE of them that I still feel safe here in PTC.

This is just what we need more of. Everyone wants to buy homes priced at 500,000 and up to live next to this. Peachdale is getting more special all the time.

To my understanding she had a job....full time mother and student.

Dear Not Again...that was just too funny, the stupid gene! Thanks for making me chuckle. Add "sheer" before the word stupid...what a fool she is. I feel sorry for her children.

I'm only the messenger, here - ok? But Hamster who has retired to Florida says this and the following quote is his, not mine

"The outstanding citizen that notagain refers to does not have to be sterilized. While that seems like a good idea at first, those of us who have actually seen this sorry excuse for a woman have no worries about her breeding. It takes two, you know. Maybe a blind person with no sense of smell would need to be restrained, but that's all"

The hamster has no e-mail - only a fax which he turns on once or twice a week. Talk about not being involved - wow!

don't we pay for the crimes of every one who messes up.... we even pay for them long after we sentence them to die.

Submitted by flip212 on Thu, 08/17/2006 - 7:51pm.

You sound like a typical bleeding heart liberal. Mess Up. Scum did mess up...she got caught! She would still be "MESSING UP" if she wasn't caught. HELLO..WAKE UP!

How am I paying for this scum bag being arrested and taken off my street? I guess I am paying...paying taxes to the city so that the police do their job and protect my community from these type of scum bags selling drugs in my community.

I'm happy to pay!!!!
