Warning: Unethical Landscaper

I recently hired PRESTIGE LANDSCAPING, based on their advertisement in this newspaper. They were to re-sod my backyard but ran out of sod and promised to return in a couple of days to complete the job. I made the mistake of paying the bill in full and (you guessed it) they have never returned nor have they returned my numerous calls. Checking with the Better Business Bureau I discovered they have had 4 other complaints in the past year. Its been over a month and I have little hope of a resolution but would like to alert the citizens and possibly prevent anyone else from getting "burned."

Collette, you can file a small claim against in court against the landscaper. You will need to take some good digital pictures and if you can get a code enforcement officer to write a letter saying there are areas without sod in your yard, even better.

Always good to hear stuff like this.

Have you also complained to the paper where you saw the ad?

Thanks for the heads up. I had an awful experience with a landscape company owned by a guy named Donovan. I don't know if he still has the same company name, and can't remember it now. But I learned the hard way... get EVERYTHING in writing, up front, and do NOT pay the total before the work is completed to your satisfaction.

This is sound advice not only for landscapers but for ANY service type company/business nowadays. We were taken by an architect whose name I can't mention because of pending litigation. Gave us plans my kid could have drawn and charged us a hefty fee for it. Watch your wallets and by all means do get references!

Any legit service compay will bill when the job is done. Any good or really good service company will send someone (or have someone call) to ask how the service was performed - before they send the bill.

Anyone who does not do that - avoid them or fire them.
