Another robbery, this time at PTC ice cream parlor

Peachtree City police believe the same unidentified man responsible for four other armed robberies in the past two weeks struck again Thursday afternoon.

The suspect ordered an ice cream at Marble Slab Creamery at The Avenue in Peachtree City and then held up the store, demanding money. And unlike the previous incidents, this time he displayed a handgun, according to Police Chief James Murray; the suspect also got away with cash, police said.

In the four other robberies the suspect claimed to have a gun but did not show it to the victims.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing black clothing and a black hat, just the same as in previous incidents reported in Peachtree City and Fayetteville, police said.

Two officers were quickly on the scene after they were dispatched just after 2:30 p.m., Murray said. Numerous uniformed and plainclothes officers from the police department and Fayette County Sheriff's Department swarmed the area. Unlike the robbery Friday in the parking lot of the SouthCrest Bank in Fayetteville, there was no immediate indication about what kind of vehicle the suspect may have used.

Murray confirmed that the suspect was described as being well-spoken from a previous robbery.

The gun being pulled on the Marble Slab employees makes the situation far more dangerous, Murray said. Still he remained optimistic about the chances of apprehending the offender.

"We're going to catch this guy," Murray said. "The problem is that during this time of day there are so many targets."

if this man shot by the Cobb County SWAT team in Smyrna yesterday was our guy. He was from East Point. His father said he'd recently become addicted to drugs and had gotten into a lot of trouble. The incident that ended with his being shot and killed began with him robbing a woman who ran a small consignment shop.

I don't know what the man looked like. They showed a man with a gun pointed at someone during the standoff (on tv) but I don't know if he was the bad guy or a plainclothes policeman. In other words I don't know if he looked like our guy. But I am curious and it's been hard to find a picture of him on the news sites.

No, his name was Christopher Mosely. Maybe we can fly the COPter up to Cobb and check it out.

The gunman is a suspect in other recent crimes in the area, Harvey said.

Also, the crime was committed at 1:30 in the afternoon. I'll bet a dollar it's our guy.

At least we don't have to feed it. That would have been a waste of everynones tax dollar. Good job SWAT team.

Amen, at least we won't have to waste any taxpayer money on this poor excuse for a human being. We should just arm all of them and let them kill each other.

That's never a good sign. It means he's getting even more dangerous and if he's not caught soon, he'll probably end up hurting somebody.

Hey folks, this kind of stuff goes on every day in every city. I know most of PTC thinks that this little town is immune to problems that the rest of the word deals with, but it's not.

As the population continues to grow at the rapid rate that it is in PTC; the percentage of robberies, rapes, drugs, and murders will also increase. 5 years from now, PTC will be no different than suburbia in Pittsburgh, Dallas, Cleveland, Detroit, or Miami.

Your "little bubble" is no longer as safe as it once was. Get used to it.

Was it all of the crime we have here so that new people moving here can practice their street gang fighting techniques? Was it so their kids could be bullied mercilessly in school?

If gratuititous violence is a selling point for this city maybe wieland can put a firing range in the middle of his new high density cluster home project. Then we will have the realistic project atmosphere to go along with it.
Maybe they could even pre-fit the homes with their own meth labs.

Great idea, yeah I think we should just get used to it.

Why the hostility concerning Peachtree City's enduring feeling of security?
We don't want to get used to robberies, and, frankly, we shouldn't have to. Although we see this occuring in other cities, we've become comfortable with the idea that our home is safe. Don't mistake this as a sign of vulnerability; it's only right that this should alarm us.
I don't know about you, but I don't want to live in a home threatened by violence. We don't pay ridiculously high taxes just to watch our city, the habitat of our children, turn to crime and aggression.
Do you have a problem with that?

you are correct...it happens every where all the time.

however, it hits people when it's their own city. yes, i know this isn't the only robber who has ever struck in peachtree city and/or fayetteville, and it unfortunately won't be the last.

as i said, crime shows another face when it's in your own town. in your own stores. in your own daylight.

i just hope it opens people's eyes a little more and hopefully that in turn will help to catch this guy.

sorry for posting the last comment twice.

Submitted by jms52148 on Fri, 08/11/2006 - 2:18pm.

correct me if i'm wrong...but this last robbery was the only one that has actually taken place inside of an establishment, was it not? from what i have gathered, the other robberies have taken place in the parking lot, etc.

you're absolutely right, christi. now he's actually showing the weapon and hitting more populated targets. let's face it...there might be just a few more people at the ice cream store on a 100 degree day than at the herb shop in fayetteville!

Submitted by IMNSHO on Fri, 08/11/2006 - 11:42pm.

He has shown the weapon before and he HAS been inside other stores, not just the parking lot.

Submitted by jms52148 on Sat, 08/12/2006 - 9:46am.

this comes directly from the article about which we are discussing:

"And unlike the previous incidents, this time he displayed a handgun, according to Police Chief James Murray; the suspect also got away with cash, police said.

In the four other robberies the suspect claimed to have a gun but did not show it to the victims."

i was pretty sure i read that right the first time. according to you, he has shown the weapon before? i don't think so.

while i guess i was wrong about the suspect not hitting actual stores, please know what you're talking about before you try and correct me.

Submitted by IMNSHO on Sat, 08/12/2006 - 9:50am.

The article is wrong. He *has* shown a weapon before. Please do not rely on everything you read in the newspaper (or hear on the news) to be correct.

while mistakes are made, i've found "the citizen" to be a trustworthy and reliable source of information for a long time now. on the rare chance that they do report something wrong, they quickly fix it and make sure that the public knows the true facts.

maybe a correction is coming...until that time, however, i'll choose to believe what i read and think to be true.

Submitted by IMNSHO on Sat, 08/12/2006 - 10:09am.

I, too, have found The Citizen to be trustworthy and reliable. BUT... in this case, especially, I know they are wrong. Well, they may not be, but the person they quoted is. I wish some of the victims of the robberies actually read this and would respond, because it is they who really know. And I know because I know (some of) them.

It's silly, really, to continue this discussion (doesn't mean I won't Eye-wink ). Because it changes nothing. The guy *is* armed and potentially dangerous.

Submitted by jms52148 on Fri, 08/11/2006 - 10:39pm.

i wasn't aware that there was a rule against saying things on there, whether they are right are not.

hence why i said "correct me if i'm wrong"...i just thought i had heard that the other robberies were in the areas surrounding the stores and not in the buildings themselves. anyone care to kindly clear me up on this?

not again, i'm sorry if my comments somehow upset you. i apologize.

Submitted by jms52148 on Fri, 08/11/2006 - 11:28am.

as of late this morning/early this afternoon (august 11), they caught him!

not confirmed in the media by the police as of yet, but the guy who they believe has been the suspect in these other 4 or 5 robberies was caught in the parking lot of the 'jeff davis intown' townhouses on jeff davis drive, aross from southern community bank.

more details to come, i'm sure.

I heard that call go out too and it sounded like it ... but no luck.

But turns out that wasn't their guy, according to FVPD. This guy, however, was wanted on an outstanding warrant and was thus placed into custody, so that's one more criminal off the streets, at least temporarily.

They're distributing flyers to local businesses with suspect's picture on them.

Remember, when he's in a restaurant he's always ordered first and then stuck 'em up. If someone could spot him when he first walks in and call that cops, that'd do the trick for certain. I'll see if I can get a higher-res version of his sketch online soon.

you're very right, john. i guess i spoke too soon. i spoke earlier with a real estate agent selling property in the jeff davis intown complex who witnessed the whole event, and it seemed at that time as though it was this guy who they're really looking for. i apologize for, as i said, speaking too soon.

earlier, i thought i heard the sheriff department's helicopter taking off...does anyone know if they're using this as a resorce to look for him?

i guess it was wishful thinking that this guy was caught...i guess we'll just keep an extra eye out. i hope the flyers help...i was there at my mom's office as the flyer went up on the door this afternoon. looks like a pretty detailed picture, so let's hope for the best.

I hope law enforcement is paying attention and knows to keep quiet about any capture. Whether it's Fayetteville, Fayette County or Peachtree City - none of you guys deserve the groin kicks Fayette County has been taking here just for doing their jobs.

I hope you're paying attention.

i do admit that i was mistaken in saying that this was 'the' guy, but i'm not sure i understand your comment. i don't think anyone here is trying to steal the police department's thunder...i was just conveying the information i knew at the time.

these comments come from an aspiring journalist. sometimes people are wrong...

Submitted by IMNSHO on Fri, 08/11/2006 - 12:00pm.

Why would they keep quiet about capturing this guy? I don't see a problem with them saying "We're pretty sure this is the guy" and then putting him in a line-up to be identified.

Robbing the local ice cream store, it don't get much worse than that. Bank and jewelry stores, everybody expects that, but not the local ice cream store. Ouch.

I know one of the victims in one of the previous robberies. If it wasn't a gun that the suspect aimed at him and another person with him, then what was it? A toy lighter? A water pistol? Sure looked like a gun to them!

They never, but never let the general public know all of the details.
Keep what you know to yourself or you will mess up their investigation.
Thank god I was safely tucked away in Buckhead.

This guy's got some cojones. Unfortunately, he seems like the type who won't go down without a fight. We should all be prepared for the worst.

Submitted by Eliza on Fri, 08/11/2006 - 8:16am.

Unfortunately, I believe you are right. I hope and pray they get this character without someone (other than the robber) getting hurt.

However, as for "this guy's got some cojones", maybe not; could be just drug-induced euphoric stupidity.

I also hope that all the people who work in ALL the small to midsize shops in the Fayette area are aware of these robberies and have seen the sketch and description of him. Many people pay little or no attention to the news, even when something is going on right under their noses.

Submitted by RubyBegonia on Fri, 08/11/2006 - 10:05am.

Robbing in the day time, shopping areas where people could id or possibly catch this guy...he is either stupid as all get out or possibly on mind altering drugs! Dang......I am sick of this guy, hearing too much about him.

People I have spoken with in the last few weeks know absolutely nothing about this day time robber. I suppose they don't watch the news or read the local paper. Anyway, I'm staying away from the small shops until the police catch this guy.

If he pulled a gun on the employees in the ice cream shop, I feel certain he pulled a gun on the other victims. Next time he might hurt/kill someone.

Just my opinion.

That’s THE biggest problem with PTC. There are so many people in PTC that have no clue on what goes on here it’s disgusting.

Not only have I also run into people that have not heard about the daylight robberies, I’ve actually found quite a few that didn’t know anything about what happened at WHS on opening day!

Why do you think is it that just about everybody complains about there taxes yet they have no idea what the taxes are for.

Does LOW VOTER TURNOUT sound familiar?

When was the last time a PTC city council meeting was packed? I’d be willing to bet that 80% of the cities population couldn’t tell you when or where the council meetings are.

There are close to 40,000 people living in PTC and yet even this forum has what, 40 people that post. The counter has gone up to 400 people reading at one time but that’s still around 1% of the population.

Granted the Citizen is not the only, and some would argue not even the best, place to get news in our area, sorry Cal.

It seems to me that there are far to many people that are more concerned about their tee times and tennis lessons than they are about crime and their child’s education. I just want to SLAP em, but then I’d be a thug.

I’m done.

No way is there apathy here! PTC is generally a bedroom, kinda like a motel when on a trip. Even neighbors have no use for most neighbors except for someone of like tastes to party with. This is a developer city, still yet. It is made up of cliques of various groups for their own benefit, period. A few exceptions, like me, of course.
