People are dumb.So I'm reading through some of the, uh, passionate postings by some of those who feel that their opinion matters in the Whitewater High School student issue. Some of you believe that what you type in this forum is either a) taken seriously, b) of great societal signficance or c) is read by more than 100 people. I'm happy that you support your friend, and you support your schools and your children. Could you do us all a favor and focus on your friends, your schools and your children at the expense of posting to this forum? I have had a couple of "posters" who decided to join the party a day or two ago that they are "annoyed" and "upset" with trite comments or armchair psychoanalysis. Here's a tip for you - take your eyes off the keyboard and look in the mirror. Think about how silly you are when you participate in this online obfuscation of opinions. Why do you even bother to "defend" or "support" folks. I regret to inform you that my opinion in this particular matter is probably the common opinion - bringing guns to school is most definitely not the right thing to do. I don't care if the person who brings them to school is Mother Theresa back from the dead; there are rules in life and there are consequences when you break those rules. Those who know the rules yet break them anyway think that they are "above the law" or "different" from everyone else. The social contract we all implicitly signed when we came out of our mothers' wombs was simple - you don't kill me, I won't kill you. Over time, we used this basic tenant to create laws and rules that we all follow to continue to create orderly society. We all (well, most of us) agree to these rules. Those who egregiously violate the rules, well intentioned or not, in a manner such as this, are subject to the ridicule of others (like me) who will question their sanity. Tell me again - WHY did he bring guns to school? WHY did someone know back in the spring that he was going to bring guns to school? If you read and listen to the defense provided, it is so he could "help" defend the school in case of attack. That is a violation of the social contract we have; the person took it upon himself to "solve" the problems instead of using the myriad of solutions already available. If you don't trust the system we have, you have two choices - change the system orderly or suffer the consequences of attempting to change it "your own way". Sorry to be babbling here, but I am quite confused by those who decide to attack another's opinion, informed or not, with such vigor for an issue that seems rather clear cut. If an elaborate defense for this is presented, I believe it can be boiled down to a simple thing - mental defect. Stop defending him in this forum. Log out, go visit him in jail (I'm sure you're not doing that), and support him to get the help he needs. Normal people don't bring guns to school. Do I believe this person was going to shoot up the school? Nope. But I do believe that he obviously has a "screw loose" to even consider bringing guns to school. Please feel free, as I am used to, to provide either supporting or conflicting comments to what I have written. But if you are so close to the issue, hop off the Internet and go count your blessings.
