Bullying and/or Harassment in Fayette County Schools

Basmati's picture

In light of the alledged bullying victim arrested with weapons at WHS this week, I thought I'd start a blog about what your children have experienced in the way of bullying and/or harassment while attending Fayette county public schools.

How did your child handle these situations? Were school officials notified? Formally or informally? Was the situation resolved to your satisfaction?

Tell us.

I do not have kids, but I would like to know why kids who are bullies are not punished severly? Why do school officials take bullying so lightly after columbine? Why are students who bully not expelled?

They must disrupt the school environment which impairs the good kids chance to learn. As a taxpayer I don't want my tax dollar to pay for a bully in school, they are not worthy of my money. Let their parents pay for tutors or boot camp if their kid can't behave.

I posted this earlier in another blog. But here it is again.

A couple of years ago my son was threatened on the school bus. Another child and his brother threatened to kill my son and our dog. While I realized that there was a 95% chance that this was just “talk” I still reported it to the school. I was referred to the assistant principle. She took the report and said she’d check into it. A couple of days later I called back to check into the progress she was making and was told that she hadn’t had time to do anything yet. I then e-mailed the principle and school resource officer with my concerns. I received a call that night from the school bus driver. He told me that he'd had problems with these other kids before but assured me that my son would be safe on his bus. The next day I get a call from the assistant principle. She tells me that she interviewed the witness that overheard the threat. The witness stated that he heard the other kids threaten our dog but didn’t actually hear the threat against my son. The assistant principle then tells me that she called in the grandparents of the other children and they had a good meeting. That was it. Nothing else ever came of it. If this is all we can expect from the “system” I can understand how a child can become frustrated. Doesn’t justify this kind of response I know. But we have to do more! A side note, this other kid, (the older brother) was later suspended from school for a week. I’m not sure why but I did hear some pretty bad rumors.

He had no problems, and says he never saw trouble. I know it's not perfect, but it's better than most.

I see it as a convenient excuse for the Boy at WHS (claiming he was bullied).

Besides Dawg, no one is making excuses; he will get his deserved punishment.
The point is why did he have to go through a long percentage of his young life with no solution to what he viewed as a real problem?
I say get 'em into counseling or jail BEFORE the arsenal is brought to school - and before he applies to the USPS for a job.

Anybody elses kids or any kids here experience bullying or problems in school that didn't resolved?

What part of “Sheriff’s detective Tommy Pope recalled meeting Kittrell when the teen was a student at Whitewater Middle School. Kittrell would often come to the school office to complain that he was being picked on, Pope remembered. don’t you understand?

The comment was made by "Detective Tommy Pope".
