Visiting teen reports assault on cart path

A 14-year-old was assaulted early Tuesday evening while driving a golf cart on the path between Harmony Village Apartments and Balmoral Apartments, police said.

Police are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the three suspects in the case, officials said. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and following up on potential leads, police said.
The suspects, all black males in their late teens, repeatedly kicked and punched the victim after demanding money from him, police said. The victim received minor injuries from the melee, which began when one of the juveniles punched the victim in the eye, police said.

The victim told police that he fought back and screamed in an attempt to get assistance, and eventually the three suspects fled into a nearby apartment complex, police said.

The suspects didn’t get any money nor did they get the golf cart the victim was driving, police said.

The suspects initially stopped the victim and asked for a ride to the Publix at the Wilshire Pavilion shopping center, police said. But the victim told them that was too far away, and that’s when one of the suspects put his arm around the victim’s neck and punched him in the eye, police said.

One of the suspects wore his hair pulled back in a pony tail which was possibly braided and wore a white T-shirt draped over his head from his forehead to the back of his shoulders, police said.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the city’s Crime Watch line at 770-487-6010. Callers may remain anonymous.
The victim was visiting the area from Cedar Rapids Iowa, police said.

Send violent criminals to the Middle East

I propose that we set up a draft for all convicted violent criminals. They'll serve in a division of the military that doesn't carry weapons. They'll dig ditches and help rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan. After four years, if they haven't sworn of Satan (figuratively speaking, of course), then let them come home.

I guarantee you that when some thug's buddy gets sent to Iraq, and is out on Patrol in the capital without a gun (but armed with a broom), the thug back home is going to know we're serious.

And if he gets blasted in Iraq?

Even better.

Studies are very tricky things. If not done properly, they can be flawed. If you make the statement that "90 percent of convicted criminals come from broken homes", people can misinterpret. IF 99 percent of criminals from "normal" families happen to have good lawyers, and never wind up being convicted, that clearly would change the numbers of who is convicted.

The recent crime influx throughout Fayette County seems to be stemming from the lower-income neighborhoods (like Harmony Village), and the areas bordering Riverdale (Fayette Pavilion, anyone?). I think we should take back our county... It's going downhill, and FAST. Someone needs to do something soon, or the "thugs" are going to overrun us. Drug dealers, armed robberers, car thiefs: we don't want you here! Go back to whatever hole it is you crawled out of and leave us the hell alone! Oh wait-- I guess you've already run Clayton County in the ground... Are we next?

Head on over to the Probate court and apply for your concealed carry permit. They are $15 for a 5 year permit. You'll need to be fingerprinted at the Sheriffs office, I think that's $40 (must be cash).

Then, go to a local firing range (such as Autreys Armory in Fayetteville) and become familiar with carrying and firing a handgun for your personal protection. They will give you classes on the proper use and restraint, and they are well worth it.

Use your head, never do this without training and never branish a weapon unless you are in a life or death situation. Don't be a "show-off". You could get hurt... or worse.

Well over 98% of the time, if you do have to draw your weapon, you would never have to use it. The sight of it will be enough to difuse the situation.

Be prepared thought. It never hurts.

Need to take back our city..

....from the ghetto thugs that have infested this complex. This isn't about black and white. It's about criminals that think they are living in Tech-wood Homes. The same thugs and drug dealers that want to bring their crime and muggings from their old neighborhood to our city. Guess what, we're not going to take it.
When I moved here 18 years ago, I tried to be a good neighbor and contribute to the community. I did not come here to mug, thug and drug my neighbors.
What is the best answer to return this city to the safe environment that this once was? Buy the place out, turn it into condos or bulldoze it and build single family homes.
This place is dragging down the whole city.
Was anyone at all, I mean anyone surprised when they said this attack took place behind Harmony Village? Oh what a surprise huh?

As most of us venture off in our golf carts everyday, the last thing that we think about is possibly getting attacked on the golf cart path. Although Peachtree City is a beautiful place to live, we are consumed of this bubble image that we have given it. Not anywhere in the world is 100% safe. I feel horrible for this young boy and that is probably the last thing that he was expecting early that morning. My sympathies. But, not to be racist (to those arguing about racism), how many of us would "venture" out into harmony village. I know that I wouldn't and I have been in there before. I have witnessed what goes on behind some of those apartment doors. Anyone remember when a teenager was fatally shot several years ago? Our police department does a good job, but you would think that someone within out city government would pay more attention to what comes in and out of that neighboorhood, including balmoral. Applause to the arrest in the avenue, but what about maybe raiding some of those "active" apartments in those apartment complexes? And possibly finding those 3 scum buckets and putting them in jail where they belong.

The police do the best that they can. They simply can’t be everywhere at one time. There are more of us then there are of them. If everybody try’s to help, things will get better.

I grew up in a city where everyone looked-out for everyone else. Every child had 16 parents everywhere they went. We all helped each other as best we could.

PTC/Fayetteville is still a fine place to raise a family just as long as “values” are taught by parents to their children.

What people have to come to grips with is that they’re your kids. If you don’t educate them well, we will.

I forgot to put in the web article that the victim is visiting the area from out of state, so I'd think the "he owed them money" theory is highly unlikely. Anything else is just speculation at this point.

Someone else said that Harmony Village could be bought. Logically this would be easier to do than in a subdivision because the apartment complex is owned by one company. Subdivisions have multiple, multiple land/homeowners.

I'd venture to say you could almost count on an apartment buyout in the next 10 years in PTC. They'll use the zoning to make luxury lofts, etc for the well-to-do. Again, this is just speculation.

I have been there during the day and at night for dinner. I feel safer there than on the cart paths here at night or during the day for that matter. For starters I don't hear any gunfire, and I have not been runoff the sidewalks by thug kids.

I spend a great deal of time on the paths (walking/biking/on a cart), in and around Battery Way, Lake Peachtree, City Hall, and on toward Three Dollar etc, back to Braelin Kroger etc. While I've seen some rudeness (haven't we all when a driven vehicle is involved) I've never felt the least bit threatened.

Also, personally, I was never "blessed" with a good paying job. I worked during the day, attended college in the evenings and "earned" mine. Most successful people have done it that way as well.

Life is full of choices. You make the wrong ones, you end up with a house full of kids, no education, living on the Government taxpayers and complaining that you can't raise a family on minimum wage.

Also, you may want to look up the definition of "Racism" before you start slinging that term around.

You can't live on minimum wage. That is why you finish HS. The Wendys in PTC pays $7.00 or $7.50!

If you can't afford a family, don't have one! Wait until you can.

Unemployment is near record low rates. The unemployment rate remained at 4.6 percent.

As someone else said, you EARN your wages. I have lost jobs due to downsizing and closures. Every time I ended up with a higher paying one!

OK so a white kid (and I am white) shoots another kid (Dallas Crenshaw) and he does not get called a "thug" yet someone (who happens to be black) assaults a white kid (I assume the victim is white) and they get called "thugs." Why in the heck do any of you people think that you can just buy Harmony Village. People live there! It is their home! You cannot localize the violence to one specific area. I mean look at Gables Court and Wynmeade. It is sad that this is what you people consider to be "gang bangers" or "thugs." It is just a bunch of kids with nothing to do and a bunch of parents with poor parenting skills. And may I mention that the 14 year olds parents are not the wisest because 14 year olds don’t need to be driving golf carts! You can blame the kids all you want but someone needs to put some blame on the parents as well. And, if you don’t know who these people are who assaulted this kid then you don’t know where they live so you cannot assume that they reside in Harmony Village. What if they live in Smokerise or one of the "upper-class" neighborhoods? Are they still thugs then? No, probably not. What if one of them is white is he a thug or just a troubled teen? What needs to happen in this city is first of all, something for teens to do. Secondly, why don’t you lawmakers enforce the law on the cart paths and not just on the street???? Can you imagine how many people are driving golf carts that are not supposed to??? How about this.... why don’t you start writing tickets to the parents and the kids who are not playing by the rules and use the money that you collect from these tickets to build a youth center?? Just a thought but it will probably never happen and soon enough this city that all of you consider to be so great is going to turn into a slum. Don’t put all the blame in one area. The police could do something about this, the parents could do something about this and the city could do something about this but no one will and from now until forever, people will blame it on race rather than putting the blame on the people it should be pinned on.

Kids need a place to hang

Concerts on the weekends, a skate park, pool room, coffee Bar ect

My daughter even try to get teen concerts at the Fred w/o much luck

Bad guys are bad guys black or white. When you put a bunch of bad guys together bad things will happen. Deal with that fact. It just happens that the nearly all the high profile crimes in Fayette County have been committed by the Black Predator Thugs lately exept for the the murder which was committed by a White Predator Thugs.

I don't have a job. I have a business. The nice thing about a job is you can walk away from it. The problem with a business is that it owns you and you are it's slave. But the pay is good. For every dollar I make I get to keep ninety cents. I pay Uncle Sam and Sonny about 18% of the ninety. So that helps a little bit.

Heck yeah it's a job. I was up to past midnight last night working. I'd get so bug eyed I'd have to stop and log on and blog a little bit. But I was really waiting for my girl UC. She likes to fight with me. I think she's got the hots for the Lion. Kind of proves she is as nutty as she appears. But you know she's given me some pretty strong new names.

You guys are doing great with these poverty pimps. Although I think one of them is actually a lobbyist for an apartment development group. One would have to be paid to say the positive BS being slung around here regarding apartments.

I think you should try working in law enforcement or better yet, go live in LaGrange for a while. That way, you'll get a taste of the type of black people we're talking about. The ones that beat a lone kid up for not giving them a ride, or the black racists that make us so called racists look like the NAACP. I truly hope that you can continue to live in this peaceful la-la land, but if things keep going the way they are going, you will surely get a wake-up call.

I have taught my children well and they don’t hang out on the cart paths looking for some 14 year to hold up.

It’s not my job to teach anybody’s else’s kids what to do with their free time. It’s their parents job.

If they can’t do it, then they should quit breeding or don’t complain when the little banger doesn’t make it home one night.

Build a youth center? Are you crazy? Just what they need is another place to hang out and sell drugs and drink. Then you’ll complain that the police don’t police the youth center enough.

This city/county spends millions on parks and sports areas for the teens. Do you see any of these bangers volunteering to help anyone? With all of the churches we have here you would think that they might have a parishioner or 163 that might need some help or assistance. Do you see any of these kids volunteering to help? No.

The city paid lots of $ to co to see what teens need.There are more teens than ever in PTC
MY child and Mother spent a lot of time working on the youth concil
(There is nothing here for teens if they don't play an org. sport.)
Those kids gave a lot to the community just ask mayor Brown or Art at the park distric. We NEED a TEEN CENTER !This is a great city if you have little kids but for teens it can be hell on earth.
Teen are people too. They deserve more than a battle of the bands once a yr. Look to Nashville's Rocket Town

If that’s the case then why did the “teen center” in Fayetville fail so badly? PTC has far more entertaining things for teens to do.

Who’s going to fund the hundreds of thousands of dollars it will cost to build never mind operate?

When you worked on these comities, what were the costs associated with a teen center? Please include the maintenance and staffing requirements/costs.

The city won’t even fund a senior’s center. Just where is the money going to come from?

I've been in PTC for 12 yrs. I've lived across the street from this vile dump for 5 yrs. My kids had/have to endure the brats in school, whom by the way have their own (elementary) school bus because there are so many of them and they caused so much trouble on their original bus. I have a 14 yr old son and he and his friends have encountered trouble behind this rat hole for ages. If you think someone had to be doing something wrong to get jumped back there, then you aren't familiar with that area...lucky you.

Balmoral isn't great, but at least the residents pay rent...at Harmony they are all on section 8 and have OUR tax dollars paying their rent. The adults don't use the cart paths, they walk along P'tee Pkwy with their grocery bags...it's gonna look like Buford Highway before long. They've stolen from my yard (bikes, scooters, etc) and threatened my son. I'd LOVE someone to buy that place and level it for condos or whatever. But I was told several years ago that our city "rulers" accepted it as a section 8 complex in lieu of some sort of tax $ from the Govt. or some such crap. IMO if apartments must be there, then make them like AMLI...too expensive for welfare moms and illegals.

I remember people saying that the Techwood homes parasites would be some of the new residents and actually several of them that ended up in my son's class were from atlanta projects. But instead of those parents appreciating the opportunity to raise their kids in a place like PTC (for free, no doubt), they were awful. The kids have been a problem in the schools and the cops/ambulances are over there constantly.

I heard that the original builder got some sort of govt. money (tax break) if the complex accepted section 8, but that never sounded right to me cause wouldn't the city be informed about this through permit/zoning requests? I can't believe the city (even Lenox) would have invited this into PTC...they are a constant drain on resources ie. cops, emt svcs, etc. They provide no tax revenue. And the last time I looked on the Fayette County sex offender list, one was listed with a "Peachtree Station Circle" address...aka Harmony Village. Whatever the case, that place is a train wreck.

As a kid growing up in NYC, I had my share of fights and let me tell you that "A fight is a fight, fair or not fair" is about the most stupid thing I have ever heard.

Fighting one person is alot different than being jumped by three people! One on one, you have a chance, 3 to 1 you get stomped. Maybe that is why professional boxers don't fight 3 on 1!

Color doesn't have anything to do with a fight. It does if the victim was attcked because of it! Can you say hate crime? I bet your attitude would be much different if 3 spoiled rich white boys jumped a minority.

Everybody in America needs to stop looking at race as an issue. That is the problem in America. Yeah, that's why Jessie jackson and Al Sharpton are pushing for reparations and quotas.

There are tons of hate crimes commited! And it goes both ways!!!

Even if he did owe them money, or he teased them, that gives them no right to assault him. Race is an issue in the U.S.A.. It shouldn't be, but it is. I feel sorry for the little one that got beaten, and I feel sorry for the three that will be caught because I truly don't feel that jail rehabilitates anyone. The fact of the matter is, race put aside, those boys should not have done that!

Our little victim has already been punished enough. I am sure that he will not be riding out alone again. Who knows? He may have been around the corner from his own home. I allow my son to ride his bike in the cul de sac near my home. There is always a possiblity something will happen, but I have to let him live. I am not racist, and I hate the fact that so many crimes are reported to have been black males. These little guys just enforced an awful stereotype. They made it harder for the good black children. I get concerned about teachers, police officers, and other civil servants automatically labeling black children before giving them a chance. There are a lot of good black children out there. Yes, children do learn from watching others, but the parents may not be the people these children were watching. It could likely be just one bad child. "One bad apple can spoil the bunch."

Why do people always have bad things to say about Harmony Village? Everybody in this world are not blessed with good paying jobs and nice houses. Residents of Peachtree City need to realize that these kinds of incidents happen for a reason. Peachtree City Police love to just tell one side of the story. I am sure that the 14 year old boy had done something to piss them off. Yes, thats right- he probally owed them some money or barked off some smart ass remarks. There have been many more cases just like this in other parts of peachtree city- The police just fail to broadcast it. They like to degrade Harmony Village because nobody wants it here. What about the boy who shot his friend in the high class neighborhood? These crimes happen everywhere, not just Harmony Village. As a matter of fact, I think that it has been the worst case of teenage crime in peachtree city for a few years. Wouldnt you agree? Children are going to be children! Stop blaming it on Harmony Village.
