We wish to thank Greg Dunn for the great job he has done for this county. For eight years you kept your word. You will be missed, and we hope that you will in some way continue to work and help this county grow. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I wonder if Sam Chapman and Al Hovey-King will return all those Linda Wells signs they have acquired during the campaign. Since they are already paid for, she would probably like to use them in November when she faces the Democrat. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Jack Smith has told some of his supporters that this was going to be his only foray into politics. He said should he lose, he has a business to run, and he had no intention of running again. If that’s true, why did he run in the first place? ---------------------------------------------------------------- That picture of Randall Johnson wearing that “Dunn is Done” t-shirt that appeared in the paper was in really poor taste. I am disappointed that the papers would publish anything so disrespectful. It also makes you wonder who is choosing the elected officials around here, the sheriff or the voters. I don’t want someone with Johnson’s track record of ignoring the rules deciding anything for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Most of us enjoy reading the letters written by Peter (I Lost My Piper) Pfeifer whether he is writing to us or not. His attempts to explain what he did or didn’t say are quite entertaining, especially when everyone, including himself, knows what he meant when he said it. If he’s uncomfortable now, wait until the Sam Chapman supporters rally behind Jack Smith and oust Linda Wells. If that happens, and I suspect it will, Mr. Pfeifer should do as Eric Maxwell and get his own personalized license plate. One that describes his personality and promises action like, “I’ll SQUIRM.” ---------------------------------------------------------------- I write this to you to express a thought that may have slipped our political candidates locally all the way to the state. During this past election campaign, I received a total of 48 recorded phone messages over three weeks, asking me for their vote. This does not include the solicitation I received in my government-owned mailbox. I understand the need to get the word out and applaud the ambition to do so. However, as a sales manager, I teach my reps to pride yourself on what you can offer the customer that makes you stand out from the competition, not bash the competition and expect to get the deal. In today’s world of attempting to get back to family values, what message are we sending that life seems to be based on how bad the other guy is and saying nothing about how you are better? We all ask why kids are the way they are? Look at what we teach: Bad mouth the other guy, steal to get ahead, cheat the system to get what you want — oh, and by the way — don’t worry about hard work to attain your goals; other guy will fall and you will be in the right place if you lie about your past. Used car sales people have more truth in their sales than current political candidates. I don’t need flyers and phone calls to tell me to vote for you. If you have a strong platform, then be seen throughout the year working for our city; then when you want to become elected, you past successes will get you voted without having to bash the competition. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Boy, howdy, Pathway has done it again. They’re running away with almost $2 million for land worth half that price. It pays to be a big Logsdon campaign contributor. The mayor tried his best to give Pathway sewer in Coweta, too. Our beloved mayor, the highly anticipated tax rollback champion, is raising taxes and adding $1.5 million to the city’s budget. Broken promises, cronyism and suburban decline a la Harold Logsdon. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I’ve looked into my crystal ball and caught a peek at what the new Tyrone comprehensive plan recommendations will look like. First, we need more sewer capacity. Ramp it up even though the Town Council made promises that the last round of sewer from Fairburn would be sufficient. You can’t build higher density neighborhoods without more sewer. They will raise the “save the elementary school” flag as the excuse for needing more sewer capacity, the same capacity they gave away to John Wieland Homes instead of the school (Sheryl, we won’t forget your broken promise on no density increase for the Wieland site). Second, convert the farms to higher density housing in the plan (half to one acre lots). Third, the new plan will cause increased traffic problems. The solution will be more traffic lights on Ga. Highway 74. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Peachtree City now has its own exclusive trash pick-up with increased rates. They want the trash can placed a certain way for easy pickup. However, when the trash can is emptied and returned, the lid is wide open and the can is left in the middle of the street. Is it too much trouble for them to close the lid and place the can out of the street? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Say goodbye to your peaceful community. Have you noticed the increased noise in the county since the new airport runway opened? For those of you too busy to pay attention, stand in your yard and listen to the peace and quiet. It isn’t there anymore. We have been invaded by the noise of airplanes taking off from another county. If I recall correctly, the proposed flight paths published in the AJC newspaper did not fly over Peachtree City. Why are they doing it now? The city of Atlanta is making money from the airport; these planes should be flying over Atlanta, not Peachtree City and Fayette County. Who is the person that thought it would be a good idea to send constant streams of airplanes over residential areas and disturb thousands of people? Who is looking out for us? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Fayette County has a lengthy and detailed noise ordinance. It is not being enforced. There are vehicles in Fayette County with monster speakers mounted in racks that fill the interior, except for the front seat. In some cases, they also fill the trunk. When these obscene invaders rattle the windows in a house that is 100 yards off the road, there is a problem. And Fayette County, we have a problem. If these inconsiderate jerks spent many sleepless months listening to outgoing artillery and incoming rounds exploding, perhaps they would better understand that some like their homes to be a haven for peace and quiet. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I never thought I would live to see the day that one of Fayette County’s teachers was arrested for DUI and open container and see it listed in the newspaper. This is who is teaching our children? ---------------------------------------------------------------- To the female in the white Expedition, WX589, parked in the handicapped space at Towne Center Chick-fil-A: Did you get the handicapped tag on your rear view mirror for a mental condition? You certainly have no physical problems, and no one else was with you. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To the popinjay who wrote about “fat people” running their dogs alongside the golf cart: Has it ever entered your feeble mind that the driver of that cart just may be handicapped and unable to walk? Or that perhaps they’re awaiting knee replacement or hip surgery and care enough for their dog that they want to give it the exercise it needs. May I suggest that you use a little common courtesy and do as I do. When you see or hear a golf cart approaching you, step off the path; it’s level and smooth on both sides, so you don’t have to break your stride. When I’m driving a cart, I encounter your ilk constantly. You hog the middle of the path and refuse to move, often walking two or three astride, so that the golf cart has to run off the path to pass you. The world isn’t made for individual comfort; kindness, courtesy, bending a little, and not being so judgmental really makes for a much happier person. Try it, you might like it. ---------------------------------------------------------------- My apology to an unhappy citizen that travels Planterra Ridge. [We have had] 2.5 years of 3,400 to 3,600 cars per day including shoppers, contractors, delivery trucks and citizens from surrounding counties that wish to travel the Planterra Autobahn in order to avoid four traffic lights and the Ga. highways 34/54 intersection. We are enduring speeders in excess of 70 mph, mail boxes knocked down, accidents including a school bus rear-ended, fear of going to our own mail box, your grandchildren and children not allowed in the front yard. I am wondering if you would be a little concerned if you had a daily dose of this. I am glad to share the frustration of speed bumps with my neighbors that opt to take the autobahn. Happy motoring and tighten up the screws on your muffler. ---------------------------------------------------------------- My response to the disgruntled complaint about Planterra Ridge speed bumps. If you do not like them don’t cut through. How easy is that? Duh. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The problem with 4-way stops is that one out of four drivers can’t count to four. In addition, one out of four drivers simply take what they can get. They are rude. Another one out of four drivers are so engrossed in their cell phone conversations that they think that they are number one when they are actually number three. The next time you come to a 4-way stop, remember: There is a 75 percent chance that somebody will screw up. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To the parents of the two boys who are treating our subdivision as if it were their own playground, please be thoughtful to your neighbors. Motorized vehicles on a public street are dangerous. We bought our lots and homes for our own personal enjoyment and privacy. The only two people who are fully enjoying the area are your sons who are treating it like they own 100-plus acres instead of the five-plus acres you bought and pay taxes on like the rest of us. Please try and understand and be thoughtful of others. Everytime we drive into our subdivision, we have to be especially careful that we will not meet one of your sons coming around the curve. Our yards are for our privacy and our enjoyment. We did not pay that much money to purchase the property and then pay high taxes just so your sons can have an entire neighborhood for their own personal enjoyment. As we are sure you are aware, they do not limit their riding to the street but to our private driveways and yards, which we want to maintain to keep our area attractive. A little consideration please. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To the person blaming the youths’ parents of PTC for stealing golf carts and raiding their refrigerators: Might I remind you that we have a neighborhood called Wynnmeade whose residents consist of nothing but trouble. Please do not assume that the kids of the real PTC conduct themselves in a such a manner. These kids already have a golf cart and a stashed refrigerator full of anything they need. Only the underprivileged kids of Wynnmeade would steal golf carts or raid refrigerators. Believe me, I agree with you, these kids do need a good time behind the barn with the police. Just know that it’s not the normal PTC teen making these acts. As I’ve always asked and hoped for, can we please rezone and knock those citizens (and Wal-Mart) out of Fayette County? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Last weekend I read a review by your food critique person about Pies-on-Us. This restaurant had only been open about one week, at least a very short time when your restaurant critique person was very quick to say something about their pizza not being “New York Style” as they claimed it to be. I am not sure just what New York style would be, but I imagine it could be different things to different people. She also had negative comments to make about the type of sausage they used. I just found it very unconstructive to put such a negative slant on a new “unique” restaurant starting in an area where good restaurants are badly needed. I have eaten there twice and was impressed by the food and the friendliness of the owners, their interest in their clientele and the neatness of the place. Why could you not have given them a little bit of an opportunity to get off to a good start without the negativity? I am sure they will overcome it because I, for one, plan on giving them many good reviews. login to post comments |
