Wells: Strict following of land use plan, tight budgetTue, 07/25/2006 - 4:40pm

Dear citizens, thank you for your votes, your support and your prayers. Even though we got more than 48 percent of the vote, we will have to return to the polls on Aug. 8 for a run off. It is important that we not become complacent and believe that the final results are a given. We expect between 3,000 and 6,000 voters to turn out for the special election and as a result your vote will have an even greater impact and significance. The issues have not changed. 1. Land use: How do you want Fayette County to develop in the future? My record is crystal clear: I have followed a strict interpretation of the land use plan — not just at election time, but consistently for the past eight years. There have been no favors and no “special considerations” granted. 2. Spending: How do you want your money spent? You have read the reports about my “squeezing blood out of a nickel” and being like a “child coming down the stairs on Christmas morning” when finding ways to cut the budget. There are those who suggest that I am overly involved in the process but I believe it is my responsibility to be a good steward of your money. The price of apathy is not unimaginable. Look at surrounding counties where developers rule, growth is rampant and the quality of life suffers. Let’s keep Fayette strong. Return to the polls Aug. 8. Linda Wells |
