Comission run off

Generally the incumbent gets their maximum votes in the primary, that leaves the Smith and Chapman votes and that will be enough for Smith to win.

The whole dynamics of the runoff will be different. Even fewer people will be motivated to go to the polls. Linda came fairly close to taking that race without a runoff. Let's just say that there will be a bunch of Sammy supporters who don't like the fact that Jack spoiled the race for them. Will they show up? Whether you like it or not Linda has a pretty solid base. They will vote. Will Jacks? School is starting and last minute vacations are being squeezed in. Do they love Jack that much? Jack better be working his tail off.

VOTE JACK SMITH

of Sam supporters. A lot of votes any candidate gets are just a "pin the tail on the donkey" vote. A lot of people go to the polls to vote without a clear idea whom they want to vote for, but a better understanding who they want to vote against.

2,200 is not a lot of votes. Some one said it earlier, the dynamics of this runoff is a lot different than the primary. I believe it is the only item on the Fayette County ballot.

Me and Jack and our friends are going to make damn sure the votes are turned out.

What would be your best guess at the voter turn out on Aug 8th?

Do you recall the number of voters that turned out when Commissioner Horgan was elected? 3000 plus ? in March ? with no vacations and kids in school.

Ya know what's amazing - the county will elect 2 commissioners this year with less than 4 percent of the population voting. I guess the other 100,000 people trust the 3 or 4 percent to make the right choice for them.

I can not believe they don't care who's making decisions and watching the tax dollars.

More than the Horgan race. You've got Sec. of State and the Smith / Wells race which has a higher profile than the Horgan race. I might even push the envelope and hit on 5000. You?

Sad, but true. 100,000 population. 40,000 under voting age or illegals. 60,000 eligible voters. 30,000 registered. 12-14,000 vote this time.

And next time, casey - you are correct 3 or 4,000 at most will decide between Wells and Smith. No big deal this time, since both are good people, but sometimes that small turnout lets a dangeous person to sneak in under the radar - can you spell Steve Brown?

Thanks for the clarity on the figures - with the illegal in the county the populations is probably closer to 110,000 - I still find it amazing that the county only has 30,000 registered voters vs 60,000 eligible.

I agree, both candidates are good people, thank goodness, otherwise we could be in for a long stressful ride. Still looking for some direction as how we see the commmission interface in a year or so with Jack vs Linda in the picture? Any thoughts ?

Fayette County currently has 62,294 active registered voters and 7,057 inactive voters. The inactive voters are people such as motor voters who have never voted or people who have not voted in the last two general elections. If the inactive voters show up to vote they are then moved to the active list.

Yep. Not going to repeat what I said elsewhere. But a whole lot of dynamics changed. A bunch.
