If you consider that approximately 11,000 people voted in the Republican Primary and Bob Todd got 4300 and Oakley got 2000 votes, that leaves 4700 votes. The ballot did not indicate you could not vote for Powers or Seabolt. I am wondering if Powers got more votes than Todd? People must not remember the 4 years of Bob Todd and the Dave Brotherton era for Fayette County Schools.

At 10:46 pm, Fayette county is now the biggest county (number of precinct-wise) in the state to not report any statewide election results.

All but 15 counties have reported at least some results. Fayette, Forsyth and Clayton are the only metro counties not reporting. The remaining counties no one has likely ever heard of.

Look at the vote totals for the Commissioners race versus such as the Questions.

A lot of people did not vote on the commissioner at all. And Wells race got more than Dunn's.

This makes the runnoff totally unpredictable as of now.

Did the democrats also get to vote on the questions? would that be the difference in total from the commissioners race?

PTC Guy's picture
Submitted by PTC Guy on Tue, 07/18/2006 - 9:49pm.

Which brings up the interesting point of why the questions did not have higher totals if they did.

But true. I did fail to factor them in.

No. The Dems did not vote on the questions. They were for Republican voters.

I didn't cast a vote on that race. The only time I ever do that is if I'm not familiar with the candidates. Like the Labor Commissioners race. Congrats Eric. You've got my support. Unless you turn out to be a knot head.

I do agree that this race is unpredictable. Linda had some solid support and that is worth something. I am voting for Jack but man it's too early to get a read on what's going to happen. If I were forced to bet I'd have to put my wages on Linda. Please prove me wrong folks.

Now Frady and fellow commissioner are no longer in the minority to Dunn, Wells and Peter.

What does Peter do now?

Linda can no longer ride Dunn's coat.

The stradegy against Dunn failed. She can no longer run agaist him.

So what does Smith do? What does Chapman do?

A ton of questions. All the dynamics have dramatically changed.

Preserving the Trio is no longer an option for those trying to keep that.

I think the information questions were answered correctly. The fair tax got 85.5% YES. And the "secure the borders" received 95.4% YES. Tighter security and a fair tax. Strong message to follow.

Eye-wink

I know. The 2b question should not have been on there. I think it was spoiler question to indicate "compassion" even if the overall concensus is to secure the border. It was just a mind game so that the 2a opponents will have something else to rely on.

How is Linda doing to do this one? Her Maxwell linkage and attacks didn't work.

And what does Smith do?

I truly think too many people believed the lies about Maxwell. I know my neighbor did.

Think about it for a second - Eric and Linda could be a great fit on the commission. I don't think from what I have heard or read that there are any hard feeling between the 2 of them.

I believe the county and the taxpayers will benefit with them working together on the commission.

The question is, if this becomes reality who ends up as the chairman??

Submitted by 30YearResident on Wed, 07/19/2006 - 12:00pm.

That's an easy answer.... Commissioner Frady, of course. He'll be the only one that's not full time employed and he's wanted the position for years.

Submitted by allin on Wed, 07/19/2006 - 12:39pm.

30YearResident

Is that a good thing ? for the commission and the county? I'm not familiar with Frady - either I missed earlier comments or he does not push the right buttons to bring headlines and exposure on this website and in the citizen.

Frady would hold a critical role and more importantly tie breaker vote on the commission? Is this the change at the leadership position that we were all hoping for and wanted to see ?

So we have Frady, Peter, Horgan, Eric and a player to be named later. Frady as chairman, Jack or Linda to round out the commission.

Looks like we have no other alternatives, or do we?

Too much water has run beneath it.

I join the venue late tonight because I spent the evening with the Eric Maxwell crowd at the Long Branch watching the results. Peachtree City kept it close in the beginning, it remained a toss up until 9:00 p.m. Fayetteville voters came thru and the right thing was done in the end.

It is late and most of the folks I enjoy talking to here have logged off. I thought I would share what the night was like at Longbranch for those of you who wake up tommorow and check out the late blogs.
I trust you will not suspect any political motives in my blog since there is no runoff and Maxwell has won.

The most poignant moment of the night was very late when everyone encouraged Eric to speak. How can a man sitting in a wheel chair speak to 50 to a hundred people in a room he can't even see because everyone was standing in the packed crowd. Eric told the people he wasn't going to try and speak to the overcrowded room. The crowd would not except that and found the solution.

The people in the room all dropped to one knee so that Eric could see everyone in the room. It worked perfectly. Eric could then see all of the faces of the people there. He spoke well and came across as the nice guy he is. It felt good to be there and to have voted for him. (I know, kinda came across like a girl there but got caught up in the moment.)

I think he will be okay GR but we can all keep an eye on him. He strikes me as much more honest than Dunn.

I am glad Greg is gone but I am a bit apprehensive about Eric. I hope I'm wrong about him. Let me say that I would be delighted to learn down the road that I am wrong. I'd even like to eat some of that home cookin if it's dished out properly to the citizens and not his cronies. So....I wish Eric the best.

Linda Wells - "IS 12 ENOUGH?"

Peter needs to jump out there and help her. There's not much time left. Go Peter Go. Go Peter Go. Vote Jack Smith.

Submitted by allin on Wed, 07/19/2006 - 6:22am.

Casey, don't even try to build that bridge.?

Maybe someone close to Eric should inquire about what would work best for him and the county ? Not sure the best outcome for the county and taxpayers is to end up with 3 out of 5 commissioners in their freshman year? Just my thoughts - I could be wrong ?

Eric is very talented and successful he understands what it takes to survive and build a smooth running organization. As in all successful businesses you surround yourself with knowledgeable and subject matter experts (SME's)especially coming into a new forum.

Might also take some pressure off him, it nice to have an escape route as a plan B.

Congratulations Eric.

Submitted by lifeinptc on Wed, 07/19/2006 - 7:58am.

So now Eric is talented. How quickly your opinion of him improved.

Let me be the first to say, and I'm surprised no one has pounded me yet, I was wrong. I predicted a much larger blow out between Maxwell and Dunn. I never thought it would be that close. I guess Peachtee City voters held their cards close to their chest. I guess they have that right.

Casey,in business you don't surround yourself with someone who has attacked you for six months. You don't sit someone beside you who will constantly argue and disagree with you while you try and right all of the recent wrongs.

Eric is a decent guy. So Linda, I'm sure he will appreciate your postcards with your thoughts on where to go from here.

Submitted by allin on Wed, 07/19/2006 - 10:45am.

"So now Eric is talented. How quickly your opinion of him improved" ?

I'm confused with your statement that I felt my opinion of Eric has improved ? I have had the opportunity to meet Eric twice over the past month or so with an open mind and no agenda, my opinion has not changed and he will be an asset to the county and the taxpayers in the commissioner's role, FYI Eric did get my support and vote. Sorry lifeinptc I'm not Linda or Janet or any of the others you think I might be.

My earlier comment, again no agenda, I asked for those who knew Eric up front and personal, to try and get a feel on what he sees down the line as a good fit, for him, the commission and the county taxpayers.

I'm trying to vision the county commission and chairman a year or more down the line. I could be wrong, which happens, but I have a good feel that Eric and Linda working together might not be the worst that could happen to this county. A mixture of talent, diversity and spirit could be the recipe the county needs.

Hey, at least there's three more weeks of he said / she said which will keep the BLOGS interesting.

I truly think too many people believed the lies about Maxwell. I know my neighbor did.

I think so, too.

Plus I think the voters who didn't keep up with the issues voted for the incumbent. You know the thinking "the world didn't come to an end, he must be doing okay." Smiling

And all these questions regarding fair tax and immigration may have brought in more uninvolved voters than we would otherwise get.

My opinion is that it will also be a squeaker.

And what does Smith do?

He's a CPA. He says he has the largest local CPA firm in Fayette County. At least I think that's what I read somewhere.

They both are consistently against him on a ration of 11:8. He's getting murdered in Fulton 2-1 with very few precincts. He had a big lead in Coweta early but now is running 12-10 behind. Reed is picking up some of the very small, very rural counties.

The AJC's political reporters, Tom Baxter and the other guy (can't recall his name) are asking Democrats who picked up a Republican ballot today solely to vote against Ralph Reed to email them for a story they are working on.

They've gotten an astonishing number of replies.

You sound like a conservative who actually cares and knows what is going on. Have I misread you in past? I promised I would never mention this again, but are you "agg pro" in disguise?

I meant, taking a less than positive position to keep the juices flowing. I did not mean which way he/she leans. Just an off hand comment. Did not mean any harm.....

Ok. It has been a long week already. Major issues at work and it is only Tuesday. I had 3 hours sleep last night and my brain may be slow. At least I cared enough and voted today. My vote counts! Look at Maxwell. Close and he needed every one.......

Jack Smith had better get with the program. Linda's gonna be tough in this run-off. He's probably toast as some of us worked harder on the Citizen Online for him than it appears he did for himself.

Linda, Jack, Peter, Eric, & Horgan. Boy oh Boy oh Boy. Linda just might wish she lost after this realignment. It's gonna hit the fan. The sparks that is. What is Peter and Linda going to do without Janet??????

The good thing is that Linda has a run off. She could not beat these two. Now Jack has to get into the public eye and make sure everyone knows who he is. These boards are gonna be smokin' with her lies. At least Janet is silenced, sort of. I wonder how much Sam really drew from either Jack or Linda.

The fun starts tomorrow. I need some sleep.

Looks like a run off.

I don't like Handel having any kind of a lead.

While the returns are only at
5%, I find nothing suprising on the Republican side with Sonny walking away with it.

The Demcratic side looks like it will be very interesting.

Bill Bolton 336 2.2%
Cathy Cox 7,386 49.1%
Mac McCarley 323 2.1%
Mark Taylor 7,009 46.6%

Looks like more TV ad with Cox and Taylor slugging away until the run off.
