Local art student, Nicki Clark of McIntosh High School, received a $1,500 scholarship from award-winning actress Jane Seymour on behalf of The Creative Self-Expression Foundation June 26 at Seymour’s art gallery in Santa Monica, Calif. Clark’s artwork titled, “Austin,” was chosen among thousands of other works by a panel of judges. Her work was initially selected from the McIntosh High School juried artist exhibition at The Great Frame Up in Peachtree City.

“As spokeswoman for The Creative Self-Expression Foundation, I am inspired by its mission because it perfectly mirrors my own long-term goals of furthering the role of the visual and creative arts in everyday life,” said Seymour.

“Austin,” by Clark, was recognized among four students chosen to represent the talent illustrated in the Spring 2006 Semester Competition at The Great Frame Up. Students submitted their art for exhibition at their local Deck the Walls, The Great Frame Up or Framing and Arts Centre locations, all of which are included in the Franchise Concepts, Inc. family of brands. Three finalists were chosen from each exhibition. From there, each finalist competed on a national level where they were judged by a panel that included Seymour and Mark Ebling, president, Franchise Concepts, Inc.

“Nicki’s piece is a fantastic representation of the talent exhibited by today’s students in classrooms throughout the nation,” said Ray Armstrong, franchisee, The Great Frame Up. “Together with Ms. Seymour, it is our goal to exemplify the benefits and importance of art in children’s lives through the philanthropic efforts of this foundation. Peachtree City’s Great Frame Up is proud to recognize the artistic gifts of students like Nicki.”

The Creative Self-Expression Foundation stimulates the creative growth and development of each student promoting self-esteem and critical thinking with the support of Seymour, The Great Frame Up and their community.

Seymour became involved with art over 15 years ago when she began painting and found it to be an avenue of expression. Her passion for art led her to become more involved with art education, and an advocate for all children encouraging self-expression through art and creativity. Her family’s tradition of creative gift-giving is translated through her involvement with charities including American Red Cross; City Hearts; Childhelp, USA; Entertainment Industries Foundation; Sunrise Children’s Hospital Foundation; Make-a-Wish Foundation; and the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.

The foundation’s initiative encourages participation on behalf of area schools, teachers, parents and high school students. The Creative Self-Expression Foundation is passionate about recognizing and developing creativity in young people through this philanthropic effort to raise awareness of the importance of creativity and the arts in the education process.
