Two eateries make their debut

Fayette’s foodies have two more choices to satisfy their hunger as the dog days of summer approach.

Pies on Pizza has opened on Ga. Highway 74 in Fayetteville, near Jordan Salvage. The restaurant claims its authentic N.Y. style pizza, but I think it’s closer to Chicago-style pizza. The crust is thick, the sauce is reasonably good, but the toppings need some work. I’m not a big fan of sausage pellets that resemble Kibbles and Bits. I’d much prefer slices of sausage and the pellets at Pies didn’t taste that Italian to me. Still, there are things to like about the joint.

The service is friendly, although sometimes slow, and the sandwiches and garlic bread are excellent. Soon, the restaurant will be serving slices which should help increase its lunch business and it provides a break from the Pizza Hut-Dominos chain version of pizza.

The other new choice for foodies is Taco Mac, which opened in the old On the Border, just off Ga. Highway 74 in Peachtree City. The first Taco Mac opened in Virginia-Highlands in the late 70s after two guys from Buffalo, N.Y. couldn’t find good Buffalo wings in Atlanta. While its wings have been voted best in Atlanta a few times, the restaurant also serves other delicious dishes. One of my favorite dishes is the char-grilled mahi-mahi with spicy mango shrimp.

Other favorites at the restaurant include quesadillas and tavern style fish and chips.
While I’m glad to see the restaurant open another outpost in our county, I think we’ve finally reached our quota of wings restaurants. If other chains want to call us home, I’d be happy with P.F. Chang’s or Red Lobster.

It still amazes me that many of the good independent restaurants don’t want to cash in on the disposable income of Fayette County. Newnan consistently outpaces our county in restaurants. It’s time for Fayette to come into its own and offer more choices for the buck.

I recently visited Pies On Pizza with my husband. We absolutely LOVED it! Their calzones are bigger than your head, and the Greek Pizza was to-die-for! Thumbs Up, Pies On! We will be visiting again soon!

Since when did they move Jordan Salvage down to 74?

So John Thompson made a mistake....Obviously he meant 54 in Fayetteville.

You're OK Cowtipn. The good news for PTC is that Jordans Salvage is franchising into PTC near the Home Depot store.

Don't believe everything FC Foodie writes. First, if you're going to review a restaurant, spell the name correctly, PIES-ON. Second, the service is very friendly and personable, but not slow - remember good food takes time because they make it when you order it, it hasn't been waiting on you all day. Third, my family has ordered a variety of items and would recommend the baked spaghetti, the calzones, and the fried clams. The 'Pizza Primo Pie' made with prime steak and cheese, is the best in town, by far.

I love Italian food, and Fayetteville is sorely lacking in that department, although the other one on the north side of town is good, the service needs improvement and the menu is very limited. I'm glad the owners, former New Yorkers, are giving it a go here, and I hope they stay for a very long time, serving up some delicious food. Just for the record, I am not one of the owners, nor do I work there, I'm simply a happy customer.

You mention another pizza place on the north side of town - do you mean Hometown Pizza by Barnes and Noble or Richie's?

I didn't say pizza place, I said Italian - big difference around here. The reference is to Johnny Carino's on GA 85.

Daisy,

Is that a picture of someone's afterbirth. It's kind of disgusting looking. Especially on the Foodie Blog.

And Kitty Kat has a problem with my furry feet?

It's my cat, he was checking out the camera lens while I took his picture.

Now it's clear. Cool! Isn't that weird. Now, after knowing, each time I look at it all I see is cat.

Myself and my wife at Pies on tonight before we left i read this review of the eatery, so we were torn on if we should to go or not but now it is obvious to me whoever wrote this review does not know Italian food or Italian pizza for that matter. So anyone who reads this review please do yourself a favor and try it for yourself. While I am at I will suggest that citizen get a dining critic that knows the difference between Chicago pizza and Sicilian pizza.

The food is great and the wings may be "Buffalo-style" at its purest, but the service is definitely Peachtree City Style - bad. Don't try take-out. They can't handle it. Here is a hint for Taco Mac employees...if you are overwhelmed with calls, it's not great etiquette to put callers on hold and never come back...three times...in the same night.

Once again, a good thing comes to Peachtree City and goes bad. I'd be afraid to see what we would do to PF Chang's. We've killed every restaurant that had good food and good service.

Poor service such as not taking care of phone calls and poor waitressing is not the employees fault. It is the managements fault. When you don't invest in proper pre-training and follow up on it, plus pay about $2.00 and hour, plus tips, that is what you get! As to Buckhead restaurants, there are just as many inconveniences going there, parking for instance, and long waits, that it evens out. They are better trained however and have a better pool to draw from for labor. The key is that people there pay more for the meals and therefore tip much better. We as a people in general don't want to look cheap in "Buckhead." Better training, better money, is all it takes for proper service. I can eat here and be home in an hour. To go to Buckhead, eat, and return, is a 4-5 hour sojourn---if no wrecks and robberies. The food is no better.

It is hard for restaurants to find good help here or enough of it. The only places that have had consistently good service are Valentinos and Thai Spice. Other than that.......go to Buckhead.
