Jack Smith

I agree with "Fireside". I too have had an opportunity to meet Jack Smith and hear what he has to say. He is very nice and very impressive, however, I did notice that on several of the issues he addressed, his suggestions and/or solutions were not possible as a commissioner. Some things are out of their jurisdiction. Two examples I can think of are: "no budget for the roads" - there has been a road plan and budget for at least 8 years as I understand it. The commissioners fought for the SPLOST to pass even though there was much opposition, particuarly from PTC. "would give more money to the Fayette Senior Citizens". While this is possible, one must be very careful as this organization is a private, non-profit and NOT a part of the county government. Many people do not know this. I didn't until recently.

I also agree that you shouldn't have to worry about attending political functions. You have just as much right as anyone else. Did someone make you feel that you shouldn't have been there?

When a candidate has not held office they don't always realize exactly what is and what is not possible.

New to the area Weasel? I think you recently made that claim. We can always use another weasel. What a quick study you must be.

New Commissioners are just as refreshing. They have new ideas and new angles of approach to problems that long serving Commissioners can't seem to resolve. As such you should keep your mind open to new ideas and new people.

As far as the Senior Citizens, a title which probably shouldn't be capitalized but I choose to do so, no matter what decisions are made about how to help them they should be treated with more dignity than they were by Linda Wells. Whether they are a part of the government or not. I for one am glad they are not. I wish them a retirement free of the nastiness that now comes with Fayette County politics. The Fayette Samaritans are not part of our local government either but Linda Wells has tried to fund them as if they were. Why are they more important than the Senior Citizens?

Jack Smith is sincere and honest. That's what we're lacking on our County Commission. Sincerity and honesty.

Sorry if I misled you. I am not new to the area - but I am new to this website and posting blogs. That is what I meant when I said I was new to this.

Jack Smith is sincere and appears to be honest. I think most of the other candidates are as well.

I think Fireside's suggestion to contact the candidates by phone, personnally,is good one.
