EVERYBODY TALKIN' ABOUT HEAVEN . . .

I'm glad to see that there are thinking citizens in Fayetteville who wonder at the sincerity of those who speak of 'family values' - and then take their children to 'play' at casinos. The act of 'playing' is used in education as a 'learning' experience. What are parents 'teaching' their children when they 'play' at casinos?

Politicians are known for their words not always representing their true beliefs - but actions speak louder than words. Honesty is needed. Voters need to observe the actions of candidates . . and realize that everyone 'talkin' about family values' don't have a clear understanding about what the term means.

Let's hold everyone who wants to 'serve' the public to a standard that reflects honesty . . .regardless of their political label. The term 'family values' has different meaning to different folks. It appears that politicians use slick terms to woo the voter. If we held our leaders to a standard of honesty in public life - and discreteness in their private lives, we might get a better caliber of leadership. I also believe that we must allow our leaders to have a private life. Do unto others .. .(I sure wouldn't want everyone knowing my personal business - but would expect them to monitor my performance in carrying out my public responsibility.) I applaud the government in going after those who cheat the public (the voters). It appears that political labels should be ignored - and more attention paid to the results of the politicians' efforts in delivering what was promised during the campaign.

How about this. I'll hold the Republicans and the so called Conservatives accountable. You hold the Democrats and the Libs accountable. You will undoubtedly need more help than I will so just give me a yell an I'll come help you out.

The difference between my guys and your is that it's ok if you lib friends are unethical and slimy because they're on your side. But it's not ok for the so called Conservatives to get down to your guys level. That's quite alright though. I'm quite comfortable in holding my guys more accountable than you do your own.

If our democracy is ever to work - we must hold all 'guys' to the same standard, regardless of political label. Most Americans are 'moderates', neither radically conservative or radically liberal. . .and unfortunately, politicians realize that most Americans do not study the record of or monitor the actions of their political leaders but rather rely on sound bites like 'family values', etc. I don't think that the American public is doing a very good job of holding any of our leaders 'accountable'. We blame a slanted media - when in today's world of technology - we can get to the truth of any issue by just doing our own investigation. No leader of the American public should be 'slimy or 'unethical'. As long as we allow 'sound bites' to govern our decision making at election time - we deserve what we get - regardless of party label.

A political statement they feel they must make to stand a chance to be elected.

But MANY, both parties, don't have a clue.
