A Fayetteville teen was killed Thursday night when the car he was riding in ran off the road and struck a utility pole, catching fire, police said.

Jeffery Kyle Friley, 17, was unable to escape from the car and died on the scene, according to officials with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Division.

The driver, Christopher Glenn Edalgo, 18, of Fayetteville, was able to escape and was taken to an Atlanta hospital for treatment, police said.

Edalgo was driving his 2004 Chevy Cavalier north on Goza Road near Flagstop Run when he apparently lost control of the car, police said. The car left the road and struck a utility pole near the intersection with Flagstop Run, police said.

The car caught fire after striking the utility pole, police said. Friley was the only passenger in the car.

This is the 10th fatal auto crash in unincorporated Fayette County this year. The investigation into the wreck is not yet complete, police said.
