ONION SMELL AT MY HOME - I FEEL SICK

I live in Fairburn in a Subdivision. For 3 weeks I have been smelling an onion odor around my house. Last night(JUL 11) I almost passed out - never experienced that before and I am 52 yrs.

I got up from my couch and fell to the floor, with extreme dizziness and profusely sweating. My t-shirt was drenched. I was also sick to my stomach. I was scared. I thought I was having a stroke or a heart attack and I am in excellent health condition.

I have had noticeable headaches for the last 3 weeks. I wonder about the onion smell and the if there is any connection to my dizziness, nausea and headaches.

Today, I feel like I am not with it. Some dizziness and nausea.

What should I do?

I have placed a call into the Doctor and will provide the doctor the MSD sheet on Propyl mercaptan plus the Citizen article.

I wanted to post a copy of the e-mail Connie Biemiller of Fayette County sent out this morning to all residents who signed the petition on Monday regarding this issue and the commissioner's meeting yesterday: (Please note that if you or anyone you know has been sick from this they need to call the public health nurse of Fayette County to report)

Hello Everyone:

It was good to see many familiar faces at tonight's meeting. The commissioners appeared to hear our cries and plan to put a full court press on Fulton County - they want to find out the extent of what is happening and to look into getting this plant removed from this area. I am copying my speech to you all and what we are asking of the Fayette Commissioners - I feel one of the major accomplishment of this evening is that all illnesses that are related to this event should be reported to the Public Health Nurse at the Fayette Health Dept. their number is 770.461.1178 - Ext. 5416 - we want to make sure all illnesses are documented and that our neighbors receive immediate treatment if required.

The next meeting to be held is at Bethany United Methodist on July 19 at 7pm - we all need to be there - State Reps, South Fulton and Fayette Commissioners plan to be there and the Waste Plant Managers have been asked to attend as well.

Please put signs up in your neighborhoods and call your neighbors in regard to the meeting and the need to call the Health Department to be counted and to be seen there by a Health Professional if needed.

This problem is not getting better it is only getting worse - one of the scientist at the meeting went through the woods around the Waste Plant site yesterday and it appears that something very significant has taken place - he said there was no animal life in the area.

We must continue to band together. My biggest need at the moment is to try to call people on the petitions to let them know of this information - many did not give email addresses - if you are willing to call some folks please let me know and I can give you some sheets to call.

Thank you in advance for all of your help!!!
Connie Biemiller

Fayette County Board of Commissioners:

Mr. Dunn
Ms. Wells
Mr. Frady
Mr. Horgan
Mr. Pfeifer

My name is Connie Biemiller and I stand before you this evening
representing the deeply concerned citizens of Fayette and South Fulton Counties. We have all been recently made aware that the very strong onion odor we have been smelling for many weeks is actually a toxic chemical known as Propyl Mercaptan which is used in pesticides. Most of us had no idea that a Toxic Waste Plant was actually in our neighborhood. However, it all makes sense to us now - our animals are no longer wanting to go outside for any length of time and several of our pets have suddenly died in the past few weeks due to bleeding disorders. We ourselves are having nose bleeds, severe headaches,nausea, increased allergy symptoms and heightened asthmatic responses.

I am a clinical social worker and work with people on a daily basis and I can attest to the fact that this is not sympathetic hysteria by any means - our community only began to share their stories on Monday afternoon one by one during an impromptu petition signing. More than 250 signatures were collected within a four hour period - and we are here today to submit those signatures to you and ask you to be advocates for our community. We ask our commissioners to band with us to help and guide our neighborhood's safe return to a healthy environment - where our children can run and play outside and that we can all again enjoy a quality of life that is the right of every citizen. I, for one, am proud to call Fayette County my home and truly feel it has been one of the greatest blessings of my life to live within this community and I will do everything in my power to make sure that feeling remains within me and that of my neighbors.

We specifically request that the Fayette Commissioners advocate for
our citizens in the following ways:

Conduct an independent study of our nearby streams, soil and air near
the Philip Services facility;

Open our health department to begin treating and documenting illnesses relating to this toxic incident;

Hold meetings with South Fulton Commissioners and State Representatives to ensure that Philip Service Corporation is disposing of toxic substances in a lawful and safe manner and conduct further research as to the appropriateness of having such a waste site in a residential community;

We ask that the commission follow up by implementing a meeting with
Fayette County residents to inform us of the above results and lead uswith further advocacy to our State Officials. We ask that this meeting take place no later than July 28, 2006 due to the immediacy of this matter.
We thank you in advance for your recognition this urgent
matter, and for your courage and leadership in the days ahead.

We too live in a Fairburn neighborhood. My husband has been feeling bad this whole week. He has experienced a constant headache, frequent dizziness, and says he just "feels weird". I have been trying to follow this situation closely and hope that something is resolved soon. I do know that many residents were going to go to the Fayette County Commissioners meeting tonight so hopefully we can start to get some answers because this whole thing seems fishy (or should I say onion-y).

You have my sympathy, and I hope you are going to be okay. It hasn't made me sick, but it has made some of my time spent outdoors very unpleasant!

If you do some Google searching on the Bayer company, you will find they have been accused of several instances of harming the environment - mostly, I think, in other countries. They produce some very poisonous substances - a far cry from good old aspirin.

He'll sue for you. But seriously this is a problem. I heard of several other families that have been getting sick. Who would you call folks and is the worst over? And why is Bayer sending that crap over here to dump in the first place?

Miss Jane. If your still sick get the heck out of there and stay with someone. Fast.

I don't know if he has time for it but calling Eric Maxwell may not be a bad idea.
