Police are hoping a witness will come forward to assist in identifying the suspect in the armed robbery of the Herb Shop at Hudson Plaza in Fayetteville Tuesday just before 6 p.m.

Employees weren’t able to give a detailed description of the suspect and nearby video surveillance systems didn’t capture any part of the incident, said police Lt. Beverly Trainor.

The suspect was described as a very dark-skinned black male wearing black clothes and a black hat, Trainor said. He brandished a handgun and demanded money from the cash register; after that turned up only $30 he demanded more cash and employees found another $150, Trainor said.

The suspect then forced the employees to go into a back room and lay down on the floor while he made his getaway, so they were not sure what direction he traveled in nor if he left the area on foot or in a vehicle, Trainor said. No one was hurt during the incident, Trainor said.

When the man first entered the store, the employees thought he was a customer needing assistance just before closing time, Trainor added.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Melissa Peacock at 770-461-4441.

What made him think of robbing an *herb shop*? (This genius no doubt pronounced it with a hard "h")

"The suspect made off with $30 in cash and 5 lbs. of dried rosemary with an estimated street value of $22.00"

Florists and heirloom lace stores beware! You're next!

Many news stations refrain from saying that the assailant was a "black male" for fear of offending Jesse Jackson, offering instead that he had "dark hair, a dark complexion and brown eyes" and the like. I guess in this case they would have had to say, "...a dark complexion...a really, REALLY dark complexion....darker than you're probably imagining..."

And people question why we stereotype.

As long as minorities continue to commit the majority of crimes in this county, we will continue to stereotype and profile based on race. We have no choice.

...that the assailant is from our lovely neighboring Clayton County?

Fool...I hope they find this idiot and punish him accordingly. I'm happy the employees weren't physically hurt.
