To conserve Fayette’s way of life, vote Dunn, Wells

On Thursday, June 29, the Metro Fayette Kiwanis Club sponsored a forum for the candidates for Fayette County commissioner. I think anyone who attended this forum will agree that the clear choices are Linda Wells and Greg Dunn.

Their opponents tried , unsuccessfully, to attack them on all fronts, but they were victorious each and every time. There wasn’t one issue raised that they could not address, justify, and explain in a rational, logical manner. These two incumbents clearly have one goal in mind, and that is to continue to do the excellent job for our county and the citizens that they have been doing over the past several years.

Fayette County is at a crucial point and upcoming decisions could make or break the quality of life that we currently enjoy. It is imperative that we have competent, informed leaders representing us.

We must put personal likes and dislikes aside and select the candidates we believe will best represent us.

As mentioned above, Linda Wells and Greg Dunn demonstrated their ability on Thursday evening. We know that they care deeply about this county and the citizens. They are not going to sit back while others steamroll through the county with billboards, special interests, and uncontrolled building.

After hearing the facts, I do not think anyone would refer to any of the lawsuits as “frivolous.” They are anything but. It must be remembered that not all of the lawsuits being discussed were initiated by the county. When the commissioners felt that there was no recourse but to sue, that is what they did. Win or lose, they felt it was their obligation as part of the commitment to do what is best for the citizens.

It is interesting that the one candidate (Eric Maxwell) who refers to the lawsuits as “frivolous,” sued the county over political signs when he knew the commissioners were already working on amending the ordinance.

Fayette County is surrounded by counties that are examples of what we do not want to become. Greg Dunn, Linda Wells, and the other commissioners are doing everything they can to maintain our quality of life. It is not always as easy as it may seem. There are federal and state laws and regulations they must follow, and they must accept and work with some decisions made by the cities of the county.

The county is not perfect and never will be. It is impossible to please every individual; however, I believe the current commissioners are doing an exceptional job in their efforts to meet the expectations of the citizens.

Linda Wells and Greg Dunn want to do what is right. They want cooperative relationships between the county and the cities, and they want a cooperative relationship with the Sheriff’s Department.

They cannot ignore their responsibilities and refrain from doing what they must just to keep a relationship pleasant. It seems that some think that the commissioners should just roll over and agree with whatever a particular entity desires. It is a two-way street.

The Commission does not want Peachtree City residents to be double-taxed for anything, but a solution must be researched and studied. It is not something that can be resolved in one meeting. The commissioners support the Sheriff’s Department completely in relation to law enforcement. Their concerns involve the manner in which “business” is being conducted and conformance with laws and regulations.

Whatever is decided in this matter will be respected and followed by the commissioners. It is hoped that a mutually respectful relationship will ensue when the issues have been resolved.

As for attacks claiming that Greg Dunn and Linda Wells are seeking power or personal gain, nothing could be further from the truth. Think about it. What can they possibly gain, personally, in all of this?

All of the commissioner’s votes carry the same weight — each one is an individual vote out of five.

Linda Wells and Greg Dunn have succeeded in building positive relationships with state entities which has helped our county immensely. Fayette County is no longer a county to be overlooked or moved to the bottom of the list. We are known and respected throughout the state. Fayette County is a positive example to others.

Do you really think it is “time for a change”? Change for the sake of change is not always a good thing. There is also a saying: Don’t fix what isn’t broken. We know that we have proven, productive, effective leaders in place. We should keep it that way.

The forum I referred to will be televised on a local Comcast station. I urge everyone to see this program. I also encourage all to try to attend one of the upcoming forums. Most importantly, be sure to vote on July 18.

I'm sick of the three amigos and their spouses trying to rule Fayette County. Right now I'd vote for Pee Wee Herman. I'm out of tylenol because of your husbands letters.

I almost said the duck but his accent freaks me out. Not that Pee Wee doesn't. You know now that I think of it Peter kind of reminds me of Pee Wee. Okay I need to find a new icon. Maybe the duck.

Pee Wee sit behind you at Tinsletown. No Life....Let's keep Pee Wee out of here. I don't trust him around our young people. And with a DA like Scott Ballard I would be afraid that he would not hold the likes of him accountable but would instead just get him off.

Did not agree the suite was not frviolous.

If their suits, all of them, were not frviolous, why do they keep looing them? Hmmmmm??

Why are you just flat out lying here? Oh, yea, the third head of the monster is your husband.

He goes next.

Dunn and Wells are ruining Fayette County as we know it. Eric Maxwell and Jack Smith are the best choices for the County Commission (in my opinion).

I am the founding member of the Regressive Party of Fayette County. Our prime directive is to roll back the clock in this county by roughly 30 years.

On the agenda:

* The demolition of the Fayette pavillion and similar shopping complexes as well as the big box stores.

* The prohibition of further encroachments from WalMart and similar.

* The restoration of downtown Fayetteville to its original charm.

* Provision of incentives for the flourishing of small, locally owned businesses.

* The banishment of shady developers and shoddy builders. We may tar and feather them.

* The establishment of a task force for the creation of parks and other public spaces that create a genuine sense of community.

* Zero tolerance of violent crime--both law enforcement and courts.

Remember to write in "Muddle" when you vote next week!

Why did you wait until today to announce your candidacy? I've already voted. Maybe I can convince my lovely bride to write you in.

You need to check into something if you want to be a viable candidate. I couldn't figure out how to write a candidate in so I got stuck with voting for what was on the ballet. We may need to get PTC Guy on that one and utilize his extensive research capabilities as to eliminate any further confusion at the polls. We wouldn't want want people to start referring to us as Fayette-duh-ville because we can't write-in a candidate. I already feel that way after voting for Eric Dunn.....or was it Greg Maxwell? Oh well. What difference will it Really make? If we don't get you in with your plan then none of us are going to want to be here in 6-10 years.

I'm not sure what position you would have to hold to do all that but it all sounds good to me.

I don't know about you but I am so ready for this election to be over. I am sick of all of these negative tv adds. You get to a point where you don't know what or who to believe.

Do like me. Drop the Dish and drop the Comcrap. I haven't had TV for over a year and we haven't missed it a bit. My girls stated the other day how great it was that when they watch somehthing they never have to sit through a commercial. I get all my news off the internet and 90% of the time without any spin.

We have a small set with rabbit ears--complete with aluminum foil at the tips to improve reception. It is rarely on and tuned to any stations. We use it mostly for videos.

Nevertheless, I have caught a bit of the political stuff--particularly the gubernatorial race. Nasty, nasty race! Do I vote for the huge, square guy with the "Mr. Incredible" profile, or the lady who looks like Carol Burnett before her plastic surgery and pronounces her "Rs" funny?

Many don't understand PTC is in a bowl shaped area and the airport kills signals as we.

We have Directv. Hate cable. Always getting knocked out, has fewer channels, or at least did, and costs a lot more.

Just cannot get SciFi, HGTV and a couple of others on tin foil.

I am amazed you get much of anything.

Wait a minute Highgreen might be out there. Your not missing anything. The commercials would turn your (or is it you're) stomach. I just want to hear what the candidate will do for us, not what the other candidate cannot. I'm ready for it all to be over.

"It is imperative that we have competent, informed leaders representing us."

Uhhhhh. Okay Carolyn but then what do we do with Peter?

"We must put personal likes and dislikes aside and select the candidates we believe will best represent us."

We already tried that. We elected the people we didn't like and they haven't worked out and we still don't like them.

"After hearing all of the facts, I don't think anyone would refer to any of the lawsuits as 'frivolous'."

Na you're right. The only person that referred to them as that was a Superior Court Judge. What does he know.

"Linda Wells and Greg Dunn want to do what is right. They want cooperative relationships between the county and the cities, and they want a cooperative relationship with the Sheriff's Department."

Huh. Carolyn do you and Janet share meds? Lawsuits do not foster good relations.

My question to you. What qualification do you have, Carolyn Pfeifer to tell me how to vote?

No, I don't think Dunn and Wells are the clear choice, I think Maxwell and Smith are. Cheer up, they might make your hubby chairman instead of Herb.

No, I don't believe I will be watching the debate on Comcast. The grass growing in my yard is more interesting.

Yes, indeed, I do believe it is time for a change. Dunn posturing for a run at Westmoreland's seat (fat chance) 2 years from now (Hillary-like - in the middle of what would have been his third 4-year term} is not something I care to watch.
