Maxwell, Chapman would ‘change’ the Fayette we knowTue, 07/11/2006 - 5:01pm
By: Letters to the ...
Despite the political rhetoric of the upcoming county election, it is absolutely not “time for a change” in the make-up of the Fayette County Commission. Greg Dunn and Linda Wells have served our county well over the last few years with their policies underscoring controlled growth and fiscal responsibility. They need the opportunity to continue their leadership so that Fayette does not become another bloated Gwinnett or Cobb, with growth outpacing infrastructure and property taxes eating up our paychecks. The traffic on our roads, the number of students in our schools, and the number of new businesses in our area already reflect the ample growth that has been permitted under Dunn and Wells, who at the same time have kept a handle on our taxes. We don’t need a faster-growing community, as envisioned by Eric Maxwell and Sam Chapman: • We don’t need 3,000 houses crammed on 800 buildable acres, which Maxwell seemed to think was appropriate earlier this year when the construction of a large housing complex was proposed near the hospital. • We don’t need an “equestrian park” built in the north part of our county to serve the political ego of Chapman at the expense of the taxpayers. • We don’t need these candidates’ friends, the bankers and developers who are salivating at the unbridled growth that would take place if Maxwell and Chapman are elected, to have an inordinate say-so in the direction our county takes. • We don’t need a set of new commissioners coming in to obliterate completely the “small town” character of Fayette County that, up to now, has been the attraction for our residents. Please consider that a vote for Maxwell and Chapman will be a vote for the demise of the last vestiges of Fayette County as we know it. Give Greg Dunn and Janet Wells your support on July 18 to continue the excellent job they have started. Varner Holmes |
