Accused of killing friend at PTC party

A Sharpsburg teen accused of murdering his friend at a Peachtree City party June 20 will appear in court next Friday to seek bond on the offense.

Kevin Johnston, 17, of HiLo Park Drive is charged with felony murder and four misdemeanors for the death of Dallas Crenshaw, 18, of Pinegate Road in Peachtree City. Crenshaw was shot and killed at the party with a gun that Johnston brought to the house in the Centennial subdivision, police said.

Crenshaw died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen while doctors underwent emergency surgery in an attempt to save his life, police said. Johnston had driven Crenshaw to the party, which featured alcohol and marijuana being smoked throughout the home, police said.

Police also charged the party host, Christopher Canderozzi, 18, of 415 Constitution circle with reckless conduct and possession of marijuana. Canderozzi’s parents were not at home at the time of the party.

Police said Johnston brought the gun to the party. Police have not revealed exactly what happened in the seconds before the shooting, but several witnesses told police that earlier in the party, Johnston and others were seen “playing” with the gun, Murray said.

The murder charges were filed by the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office, and Chief Assistant District Attorney Al Dixon has indicated that there is enough evidence to charge Johnston with murder, although if the investigation takes a different direction that could be revisited.

The shooting occurred after 3 a.m. When officers first responded to the home, they were told that someone else entered the home, fired the shot and then left. That was not the case, police said.

The other charges filed against Johnston are misdemeanors: possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years old, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce).

I sincerely hope that the Crenshaw family has you and Dallas in their prayers.

I believe your actions at the time of this tragic event were not to injure your friend. However poor judgment on your part will forever cloud this issue.

That being said, I also believe that you must atone for your actions and that it is not up to public opinion to decide your fate. The Judge will decide what punishment you shall receive.

I would hope that people that knew Mr. Crenshaw and know you will get some positive effect from this tragic event.
