Senoia’s staff got a huge raise Monday night, thanks to the City Council.

After the regular meeting was over, the council went into executive session to discuss a personnel item.

When the session was over, the City Council unanimously approved raises ranging from 10 percent to almost 15 percent for three of the city’s senior staff.

City Administrator Richard Ferry sees his salary increase from $60,000 to $66,000, while Public Works Director Randy Padgett netted a 14.9 percent increase and sees his salry rise from $39,140 to $45,000.

Code Enforcement Officer Bob Werner also got a large increase and will now make $36,000, up from his previous $32,500 salary.

Senoia’s closest municipal neighbor, Peachtree City, has nearly 15 times Senoia’s current population of just over 2,700.

Peachtree City Public Information Officer Betsy Tyler said the current salaries for the three similar positions in Peachtree City are $119,649 for the city manager, $69,201 for the public works director and $52,741 for the senior code enforcement official.

Ferry said the new salaries are effectice immediately.

Due to the need to create all new jobs lost due to the country losing most of its manufacturing jobs, we are rapidly creating jobs at higher rates than we used to pay. These kind of jobs, local government, were performed for years by mostly retired people, who were well qualified, but didn't require much feeding at the tax trough. Some were even done as part-time jobs by energetic people, who had good jobs, as a contribution to the community. Soon we will have 65% of our population either on welfare or on the tax payroll just as does most of Europe. When that happens progress comes to a complete halt and rottening starts. Lets stop it now.

Why are you still around?
What possible qualifications do you have to comment on jobs and salary - do you have one or both now?
And predicting the future when you live in the past is way off base.
