Illegal problem made easy?

Not too long ago,in the South, they had county farms, and chain gangs. The concept was that you did not sit idle in a jail cell and it paid for your keep. What if...today, instead of all this insanity about making illegals citizens, how bout we treat them as what they are, illegals here against the law, therfore, committing a crime? Instead of deporting them and then their comming back within days, how about the county farm? They could then be hired out to the builders and whom ever else? A money maker for us the taxpapers instead of a burden? At the end of their term, they would be given buss fare back to the border, or they could stay and risk being picked up and go through the same thing again? After they learned comming here illegal was not a win win, I don't think we would have to guard our boarders that much!

I am so tired of having to deal with the “Jane you ignorant SL#T’s when it come to immigration issues.

Only a MORON would try and compare ILLEGAL ALIEANS to professional sports players. Jane stated: “Reflect for a moment on all the baseball players who can come to the USA from countries like the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, Guatemala, and other Central American countries, to fetch salaries in the millions (out of ordinary US citizens' pockets), on a few weeks' notice.

Yes Jane, U.S citizens made a conscious decision to purchase a tickets, beer, and a hotdogs for each member of his family and spent on average a little over $200.00 for the pleasure. Multiply that by some 25,000 families per game and that multiply that by the number of games in a season and you come out with one hell of a number. What you don’t seem to grasp is that the “ordinary U.S. citizen” CHOSE to do it.

Now consider that Joe baseball player gets paid some $10,000,000.00 he also pays TAXES on it. I don’t care where he came from. Do you have any idea what the team owners had to pay to get him here to play ball? No, because you’re an ignorant SL#T.

If you want to purchase your own group if ILLEGAL ALIEANS, I’m told that you can pay them next to nothing and they won’t complain, go ahead and start your own professional sports team!

And while you’re at it go to http://judiciary.house.gov/media/pdfs/printers/108th/92120.PDF and see what me and my fellow Americans have to pay to just keep the ILLEGAL ALIEANS out of this country.

You need to get a new look at immigration. In just a few decades we will have no borders, the NAFTA agreement calls for integration and a globalized North America. This is only the first step. The USA cannot have free trade agreements without the consequences of them, one of them the free movement of goods, services AND people. There are even discussions to have a single currency, the "Amero".
Of course, if you are driven by bigotry and prejudice, you will have a hard time accepting all this. My recommendation is to learn Spanish as soon as you can and instill in your children the openess to new cultures. The USA is no longer a melting pot, it is more like a salad!

But, in the great scheme of things, what I am saying is that in a globalized world, borders and national identities suffer and become blurred. Take a look at Europe, under the Euro market and the Schengen agreement, they exercise a simplified entry-exit procedure for those visiting. What I am trying to convey is that free markets, free trade agreements and liberalization promote and bring about those possibilities of movement of goods, services AND people. You cannot have these economic areas without considering, at some point that people will also move within them. It is simply economics.

I disagree on your view of diversity. I believe diversity, within the limits of a common law, is a blessing and and enrichment of moribund societies. I have traveled more than a hundred countries and speak 5 languages, still within all the diversity I have observed there is a common humanity that can be harnessed for the betterment of a nation. I envision the USA as the leading society for this to happen, and thus, by doing so, becoming stronger.

Common humanity.

A code word for humanism.

As in your post talking of Christian and Muslim building bridges.

That cannot be done unless both sides give things that are fundamental to being Christian and Muslim.

"he was told there was a quota and a waiting list, and it would take about 11 years before he could be issued a visa. Sure enough, about twelve years later..."

There is a lot of bureaucracy is most layers of government. It doesn't make much difference which country's government. Prior to 9-11 I observed how difficult it was for an American citizen to permanently relocate a foreign spouse to the US. I can't imagine it got easier since 9-11. However, I am now familiar with an American married to a European who wants to live and work permanently over there. It is just as difficult as it appears to be on "our" side.

When something desirable is difficult - as it often is - there will always be those who want a short cut. Some will feel that cheating the system is justified. I don't, and I see no reason to accommodate (read: make it easier) for those who take that route.

mapleleaf's picture
Submitted by mapleleaf on Tue, 07/04/2006 - 9:06am.

There's another side to this story, which nobody talks about.

What most Americans don't realize is how difficult it can be to come to the USA as a legal immigrant. It's all because of the mind-numbing bureaucracy, which operates under a labyrinthine set of laws and regulations that no sane person can hope to understand, and which is grossly understaffed and generally apathetic. Unless you're apathetic, you probably couldn't survive as an employee in an environment like that.

Let's say you want a form from the agency now called the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (part of the Dept. of Homeland Security and formerly known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service). You know exactly what form you want. You might have to go to their office, take a number, wait for two hours, and finally you get to speak to a clerk to state what form you want. They won't let you talk to them unless you do that. That's the sort of experience you might have.

I know the case of an American who tried to help his brother (a Canadian citizen) to come to the U.S. as a permanent resident. The law gives close relatives a preference for getting in, over people who have no American relatives. When the brother applied, he was told there was a quota and a waiting list, and it would take about 11 years before he could be issued a visa. Sure enough, about twelve years later both brothers get a letter from the U.S. government saying the Canadian brother could now come in.

With efficiency like that in our government, some of us can understand why some people would want to skip all this rigamarole. On paper, it looks good when you say you want all immigrants to come "legally." Most Americans don't realize that the so-called legal way is quite often insane.

Most Americans who rant and rave against illegal immigration should get a grip and try to come to a better understanding of how their government really works. They might develop a bit more sympathy for those whom they label "illegal" immigrants as if they were criminals. A lot of them are simply more "sane" than our government.

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all.
This is just as true of the man who puts “native” before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance.
But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as any one else.
The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English- Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian- Americans, or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality than with the other citizens of the American Republic.
The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American."

Has it ever crossed your mind “WHY” there are quotas?

Has it ever crossed your mind “WHY” it takes so long?

Why don’t you do some research into “WHY” the laws are written the way they are rather than just bitch.

Did it ever occur to you that some of the laws were written to dissuade people from trying to immigrate into the USA?

And please keep on complaining about the INS being under staffed and under-funded. I would just love to spend more of my tax money in order to help some poor sole take another job that an American citizen used to do. Oh, please may I pay more tax for that?

Try and look at it this way, it’s not the Federal Government’s job to bring people into this country as fast as humanely possible, it’s their job to keep them OUT!

Reflect for a moment on all the baseball players who can come to the USA from countries like the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, Guatemala, and other Central American countries, to fetch salaries in the millions (out of ordinary US citizens' pockets), on a few weeks' notice.

Or reflect on all the hockey players who can also come to the USA from countries like Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, etc., to fetch million-dollar a year salaries (also out of ordinary US citizens' pockets), on a few weeks' notice.

Contrast that to the position of the American young man who falls in love with a girl who is not American, marries her, and then tries to get her to come live with him in the US for more than a visit. She might not even take an American's job.

(Speaking of jobs, we don't need to talk all that much about immigrants coming over here to take our jobs. Our bigwig executives in large corporations export lots of jobs to India and elsewhere out of the USA.)

President Bush is smart enough to recognize that we need to make changes to our immigration laws beyond building fences. Some of his supporters display all the intelligence of a fence post when they rant and rave against illegals, while having no idea what they're talking about. At least Bush has it right, this time.

(All would-be immigrants pay fairly large fees to get their applications processed. US taxpayers possibly make a profit from all that. No need to worry about taxpayer subsidies here. They pay their way.)

Yea. The American people are the villian and the poor immigrants the victims.

If it is that bad then let the American move to where the wife is and live there.

And hello! There are tons of women who seek to marry an American, get here, stay the minimum times required and the get a divorce.

There are those who abuse immigarnts. Get them here to be prostitutes, in example.

This simplistic analysis, by you, is very flawed.

I'm sorry you know someone who wants instant citizenship and can't play by the rules. Inefficient or not, you cannot defend illegals breaking into our country.
Got news for you, check the procedures for Canadian citizenship. Not very friendly either.

Now, did you note having to first be a legal immigrant before the 3 year waiting period, on top of oall the other requirements, begins?

Hey Cal, what's up!

Nobody chose where to be born. I was born in Transilvania and made it to the States after waiting 12 years in the immigration queu. Yes, I am an immigrant (a legal, according to your legalistic jargon). I then had to wait 7 more years to become a US citizen, so now I can vote and make a difference (what a cliche!).

Now, I am a rich immigrant, I live in a PTC mansion and drive a Baby Benz (won't tell you which color). I have empathy for those less fortunate who come here to work hard, especially Hispanics. I help them with work and also take them to the Welfare office and the Hospital. I want them to succeed in PTC and become citizens, too. Have you ever considered we are running out of room? There comes a time when we can not/should not accept everyone/anyone, just cause their relative lives here. Maybe there were people on the list that had better qualifications. You simply want to circumvent the system for yourself. That is why we have hordes of illegals here today. It is dangerous as 9/11 shows, and a drain on the taxpayers. I think they should be treated as law breakers and dealt with as the Arizona Sheriff treats them. How quickly the whole problem would be under control. If our borders were protected, we could take the cream of the crop instead of what we are getting.
Need I remind you of the most recent homegrown terrorist we had in the paper. One, or more of them were illegal, Haiti I think.
Anyway I do feel as everyone that the gov is bogged down, but that doesn't give everyone the right to run across the border at will.

While a prisoner is still human, I think the coddling has gone too far.

Look at the Sheriff in Texas who cracked down and uses tents and things. He understands a prison is not a hotel, motel or place where people don't mind coming back. And his crime rates are way down.

Not saying chain gangs, but something has to be done to discourage crime. Criminals, all lumped together, are bleeding us financially and do not fear prison.

while the chain gangs were mentioned in jest, I think we all get the idea. We have listened to political ideas of government putting a slant on it for big busniness, how bout a common sense approach for us taxpayers? WE DON'T HAVE TODO ANYTHING FOR THESE PEOPLE EXCEPT COMMON SENSE! The concept of chain gangs was just what was stated, while working off a crime against the community, your time was put to use. idea may have been managled a few times, but the concept is good. Instead of paying for them sitting on their butts in jail, or deporting them, put them to work for the very people this government is sellling down the river! Us!, local governments would get the money for hiring them out instead of it being sent back over the border. The illegals would soon stop as they would be put in the catagory they belong, criminals, instead of poor immigrants with the same rights as the rest of us. In my eyes, the government is looking out for them more than us.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio
June 4th, 2005 8:00 pm
To those of you not familiar with Joe Arpaio - He is the Maricopa County (Arizona) Sheriff and he keeps getting elected over and over.
Here are some reasons why:
He created the “tent city jail”.

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. (He takes pride in the fact that it costs less to feed the prisoners than it does to feed the dogs who patrol the prison)

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. He cut off all but G-rated movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn’t get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it’s gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, “This isn’t the Ritz/Carlton.. If you don’t like it, don’t come back.”

He bought Newt Gingrich’ lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

“It feels like we are in a furnace,” said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 = years. “It’s inhumane.”

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: “It’s 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn’t commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!”

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it’s time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can’t afford to have for themselves.

Sheriff Joe was just reelected Sheriff in Maricopa County.

If I ever became a fan of human-cloning, I’d probably want to start with this guy.

[…] Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio gets it. He’s been tough on criminals. Now he’s getting tough on illegal immigration. To people who say round up more illegal immigrants, Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County here has an answer: send out the posse. […]

This Maricopa sheriff is just trying to emulate Hitler and his prison Auswitch-like camps. Where do you suggest Randall sets the Fayette Treblinka?

He'll snuff you out soon enough. If you can't get past me then your lord wants nothing to do with the stench of your presence.

Sorry about getting the state wrong. I don't know why Texas was on my mind for him.

Strange thing is you don't see the prisoners having been worried about humane, inhumane, harm or anything else when they committed their crimes.

But they sure complain when they feel mistreated.

As well, I meant prisons in general. But one county at a time is a start.
