Subtle Relations and Political AffairsI’m a proud mother of four beautiful children. I bore two myself and the others were adopted through a Vietnamese adoption program for Amerasian children. My husband and I have been fortunate enough to live all over this great country of ours and see many different communities. When we were assigned to Fort McPherson three years ago, we began looking for place to call home and Peachtree City was the obvious choice. The children love the golf cart and the recreation opportunities and I appreciate the kind-hearted people. I am used to having to make new friends and build new relationships from scratch. I enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life in our community. However, I soon became very distressed about all of the issues that appeared in the local newspapers. A lot of my friends that play tennis kept telling me that Mayor Brown was the cause of all the problems facing our picturesque city and I believed them. I really developed a hatred for the mayor. My perception changed when Mayor Brown attended a Girl Scout ceremony that my youngest daughter participated in two years ago. I was absolutely amazed at how the children were just drawn to him. He really understands children and I could immediately tell that he had a real love for what he was doing. My eyes began to open with a fresh perspective and I realized that most of the negative comments in the newspaper were not from Mayor Brown. In fact, most of the destructive comments came from the mayor’s detractors. Then it turned out that Mayor Brown was right about the mess the development association created. I admired the way he fought for our families even though the insults kept coming at him in the newspapers. Many have told me that our former mayors had their hands in the cookie jar for years. Mayor Brown has displayed a lot of character and he has certainly won our votes. Please get to know him. Paula Johnson's blog | login to post comments |
