County OKs Redwine Rd. rezoning for 59 high-dollar homes

The rolling terrain along Redwine Road will soon be one of the county’s newest high-dollar addresses.

The Fayette County Commission unanimously approved rezoning 124 acres from Agricultural-Residential and R-72 to R-50. The rezoning downgrades the property’s classification from a five-acre minimum site for a home to a one-acre minimum. Dan Cathy and his father, Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy, own 119 acres on the tract, while George and Regina Larkin own the other five acres.

Agent Scott Barnett said the Larkins plan to stay in their home, but will not be included in the overall subdivision scheme. He expects homes to be between 3,000 to 4,000 square feet and sell for $550,000-$700,000.

“We’ll also have a total amenity package that includes a pool, clubhouse and walking trails,” Barnett added. He also plans to refurbish the existing home on the site that was owned by Dan Cathy.

The commissioners were complimentary of Barnett’s plan to only develop 59 homes on the property, although Chairman Greg Dunn was wistful about seeing the property developed.

“I was hoping it would never be developed, but y’all do quality developments,” he said.

Commissioner Peter Pfeifer said he was reluctant about going to smaller lots, but was also impressed with the plan. He did suggest the county’s staff revisit the Conservation Subdivision classification, since this property was appropriate for that classification, but would not fit into it.

In other news, the County Commission approved a rezoning for a small retail center on Ga. Highway 85 and Ramah Road south of Fayetteville. The five-acre tract is currently a church that is moving to a larger facility. Agent Dan Davis of Integrated Science and Engineering petitioned the board to change the zoning from A-R to C-H, so he could build an office building and retail center.

“There could be some small restaurants, but they would have to be similar to delis that don’t use a lot of water, since sewer is not available,” he added.

You think Eric Maxwell is the developers friend? How about Dunn sucking up to the Cathy family? Not to mention the others who voted for it.

This will become an example of high density zoning that is ok and the surrounding tracts wil tumble as well.
