Party host charged in connection with shooting

Alcohol, pot used at deadly party

A Sharpsburg teen accused of murdering his friend at a party in Peachtree City Tuesday remains in jail, and the Peachtree City teen who hosted the party has been charged with several misdemeanors, police said.

Kevin Johnston, 17, of HiLo Park Drive faces a felony murder charge and four misdemeanors relating to the death of Dallas Crenshaw, 18, of Pinegate Road in Peachtree City. Crenshaw was shot and killed at the party with a gun that Johnston brought to the house in the Centennial subdivision, police said.

The party host, Christopher Canderozzi, 18, of 415 Constitution Circle, Peachtree City, was charged late Tuesday with reckless conduct and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), police said. There were "multiple minors" at the party and evidence was found of marijuana being smoked "throughout the home" and also alcohol being consumed at the party, police said.

Canderozzi's parents were not at home at the time of the party, police said.

Although the investigation has led so far to substantiating the murder charges against Johnston, Assistant District Attorney Al Dixon said that could change in the future if other information comes forward.

A Superior Court judge will determine whether to set bond for Johnston at a later hearing, but Magistrate Bob Ruppenthal declined to set bond Wednesday for Johnston's misdemeanor counts, which also moves that decision to Superior Court.

Crenshaw died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen while doctors underwent emergency surgery in an attempt to save his life, said Police Chief James Murray. Detectives were able to speak with Crenshaw before he was flown to the hospital, dispelling the initial account from partygoers, Murray said.

The shooting occurred around 3:20 a.m. at a party with up to 12 or more teens present with "a lot of alcohol," Murray said.

Johnston had driven Crenshaw to the party in his Lexus, according to arrest warrants and Johnston brought along the 9mm handgun, which was found hidden under a tree behind the home, Murray said.

The shooting occurred at 415 Constitution Circle, an area of newer homes in the $300,000-plus value range.

Police are not revealing exactly what happened in the seconds before the shooting, but several witnesses told police that earlier in the party, Johnston and others were seen “playing” with the gun, Murray said.

Police expect to file additional charges in the case. Several teens at the party told the first police to arrive on the scene that someone entered the home, shot Crenshaw and left.

“We were misled when we got there,” Murray said.

Police are also looking into whether the shooting was reported to 911 immediately.

“We’re looking to see if there is any lag time between the shooting and calling 911,” Murray said.

A 2005 graduate of McIntosh High School, Crenshaw was also enrolled at Gordon College pursuing a business degree.

Witnesses have cooperated with detectives, who are working to identify everyone who was at the party.

“Witnesses told us they heard the bang,” when the deadly shot was fired, Murray said.

It is not clear how Johnston got the weapon, but police will check the gun’s history through federal records, Murray said. Police will be able to determine where it was purchased and who has owned the gun since then, Murray added.

Meanwhile, the investigation will continue for some time, with several detectives working the case, Murray said.

“We want to make sure whoever did this is brought to justice,” Murray said.

The other charges filed against Johnston are misdemeanors: possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years old, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce). Wednesday’s court hearing took place on his Johnston’s 18th birthday.

The Canderozzi home is in the Centennial subdivision, one of Peachtree City’s newest, and new homes are being built in the area.

It's funny how High-on-something and Bladderq have this tremendous fear and hate toward the law enforcement community. What is it with you guys that you are always paranoid and resentful toward them. Is there something about your conduct or lifestyles that attract their attention towards you? Do your police records reflect how you've been victimized by their constant harrassment towards you? Why aren't the rest of us hassled by the law? Please clue me in. I want to know what not to do to become a victim like you.

Boy...burning that weed really makes you guys paranoid doesn't it.

The police have never hassled me. I said the opposite, they don't go to the right place at the right time to get drunks and speeders. That would create such a court backlog and political stink they couldn't handle it.

because they are catching people driving over the yellow lines while turning into walmart and home depot shopping center.VERY SERIOUS CRIME IN THIS TOWN..YOU WILL ALSO GET A LECTURE BY SOMEONE THAT IS YOUNGER THAN YOURSELF ($100 dollar ticket) and hanging at dunkin' doughnuts

I have written before...go to Wed. court and see the cases they are bringing. Tell me it's not a game to the officers of one up-manship. Even the big child pred. cases are made off Adultfinder not some children's chat-room. I think you would have felt very comfortable in 1938 Germany. Safe & Warm. Until they came for you.

I've been to court on Wednesdays, more than I care to admit. You bladderq are an idiot and most likely have had an encounter or two, maybe three or four, with the law. Should the police stop enforcing the law or just not enforce it on you and your family? I've laughed sitting in court while people like you try to lie your way out of a ticket or blame everyone else for your stupidity. Actually, when clowns like you appear before a judge, it makes my offense look a helluva less serious. So thank you. Believe me, I have made my share of mistakes; most that were not to bad. However, the difference between you and me is that I own up to the problem and accept responsibility. I have never thought that I was above the law. My children were raised in this community. They had routine involvement with our local police officers and participated in a variety of police and fire-sponsored programs. Many police officers were positive role models for my son and I am thankful for this. Bladderq, you are nothing but an ingrate loser. Take time to learn about the police department's outstanding programs before you open your disrespectful negative mouth. Do you always shrug responsibility and blame others for your woes. You seem to be a person who spends a lot of time in court (should we read between the lines). I paid my fines without whining and crying foul. I put the blame where it belongs. Maybe I should blame you. Maybe I should say that you are anti-social, immoral, indecent and unethical. Another thing, you are a disgrace for bringing victims of 1938 Nazi Germany into your distorted and misguided delusions. Are you one of PTC's select groups that constantly bitch and complain? Go eat a doughnut, get on adultfinder, and hopefully you will be the next pervert they catch.

I beat my ticket. No fine. I was right the officer wrong. I believe they could patrol the cart paths w/ current staffing if (in my example) they weren't going out of their way to make piddling stops. I was followed for 1 mile thru 3 Stop signs before being pulled over for A brake light out. He didn't notice the turn signal was out but I re-bulbed it too. He then wrote a ticket for another infraction that didn't hold up. Maybe he didn't like my anti-Bush sticker. The rest of your attack seems personal & shows alot of anger. I hope things go better for you soon.

Submitted by Firedup on Sat, 06/24/2006 - 12:27pm.

I'm glad I finally got your attention. There's no anger or love here for you bladderq. I just firmly believe you are wrong. You obviously were pulled over for a reason, that seems fair. You say you beat your charge. You did better than I did (that pisses me off a little). But, it is great to hear that you were treated fairly. Isn't this a great city, county and state? Justice was served, you got off, and at the same time the police officer did his/her job and wrote you a ticket for violating a motor vehicle law. One of the other hundreds of things I disagree with you about is that you believe there is sufficient police officers to patrol the golf cart trails. Your opinion on this matter is simply overstated. I hope you realize that there are approximately 90 miles of trail in this city and that these trails are often used 18 hours a day, especially on the weekends. Check on this for yourself. If you think one or two officers can patrol 90 miles of trail efficiently, contained within 24-26 square miles of city, show them how that is possible.

The last I heard the Fire Department has two Jet-Skis’ that were donated and the Police have, I believe, one golfcart that they had to buy.

Now let me ask you this. Do you really want the police patrolling the golfcart paths with regular Police cursers? I don’t. There are turns that are hard to make with a golfcart. I myself would NOT want to be on the golfcart path when a Police Officer had to give chase in his or her curser.

If the council were to provide the Police with the tools they need to do their jobs we could all feel a little safer.

You got my curiosity up, so I looked up "adultfinder" to see what you're talking about. Looks like a porn "hub" of some sort with links that lead to gehenna and beyond.

How would the cops' use of this net predators chatting with children?

I have two seemingly opposed but reconcilable views on this police work. First, as a father and grandfather, I don't care *how* these people are nabbed. I'm just happy that they are. If the police indulge in a little glory seeking with the media, or whatever, then that's beside the point.

But, second, I think there is a difference in how the illicit tryst is arranged. If the *decoy* is the aggressor, initiating the idea and pushing it, then perhaps our courts should go lighter on the fool who falls for it. Certainly, a good (and psychologically healthy) man *probably* has no business knowingly chatting online with unknown juveniles in the first place, and, certainly, if "propositioned" by who he believes to be a child, should not only decline, but offer a fatherly lecture before signing off. Still,
the one who succumbs may be in a different league altogether from the guy out trolling for our kids.

Browsing the myspace of the kid thatlost his life, I noticed a comment on one of his friends about not calling the police right away. I suspect more will come out of this after a few days. Calling 911 immediately could of made a difference. We'll never know though.

OK PTC G. You say we can't tell what a person is like by looking at his or her myspace. Obviously he wasn't ashamed of his word and his description of himself. Why are you? No I didn't know Dallas but I've known enough doped up clowns like him over the years to spot doped up unproductive clowns like you a mile off. Since you brought it to my attention I visited your friends website. There is no doubt in my mind who Dallas and his friends are. And it's quite obvious from his page, his lifestyle, and his so called friends that his demise was part of a perfect storm that is sooooo easy for us prozac popping 40 year olds to predict.

I'm sorry about your friend. I've been there twice. All I can say is that I hope you Hatin B*&chs hurry up and get past your freaked out years and get on with life. It does get better if you'll give up all the destructive s*%t your involved in. Give it up and you'll eliminate many situations in your life such as the loss of your friends life. I hate that Dallas' had to die over something as stupid as this and I can understand that emotions are running high on all side. This is only natural when someone looses their life before their life has even really begun.

Nobody should have to barry their child, nobody.

That being said, I hope that Dallas' death is a warning sign to EVERYBODY who hears about it. Dope, alcohol, unsupervised teenagers in the whee hours of the morning will lead to trouble. That's a FACT of life. I don't understand why so many peple don't understand this simple logic. It has happened to me and a million other people. Luckily neither I nor any of my friends growing up lost their life, but we all did stupid things that we now regret.

His myspace page would have concerned me, had I been his parent. As such I will make certain that I know as much as I can about what my growing children are doing and with whom.

His death has certainly been a warning sign to me and I have and will make changes in my life because of it. This is my little way of making sure his death was not senseless.

PS: If Dallas' (or any other teenager) chose to post his thoughts on a PUBLIC website, we have the right to quote him, just like everybody else has the right to quote my publicly posted thoughts.

What is it with Americans today?? It's all about finger pointing and bitching and complaining.
A *child* and a friend is dead, and all people want to do is argue about the way peachtree city is portrayed and other nonsensical political {{{{{{EDITED & BANNED}}}}}}}??? You people make me sick to my stomach. Literally.

Let me ask you this.. what were your postitions on the trial of the hawks player that killed his friend in the car wreck?

17 and 18 are not children.

A crime is a crime. Conduct is conduct.

Yes, some of the posts went too far. But no, there are issues here that are fundamental to why someone was killed, on a number of levels.

Keeping it real and to the core of the issue, not the peripherals.

You spelled a really bad work in a really bad way. You should spell it S%*t or like this {{{{Edited}}}}. Bad angry boy....They're coming to take you away.

Question though...Did the Hawks player point his car at his friend and pull the trigger? No because it wasn't a Hawks player in the first place.

If you don't want your behaviour discussed in public then don't do stupid things that would draw attention to yourself. If you act stupid, act like a thug, kill someone or be killed while getting Crunked and Doped then your going to attract this kind of attention and a lot of people will think your pretty stupid and irresponsible. And they'll talk about you too.
