El Ranchero is now PTC's dirtiest restaurant

Saw a tiny blurb on the Fayette County website about a complaint someone had made about the cleanliness of El Ranchero in Peachtree City.

Food inspectors then went out there and ripped El Ranchero apart last week. (Interestingly, they labeled their inspection "routine")

El Ranchero received a whopping 70 out of 100 points (they used to be at 92). They now are Peachtree City's dirtiest restaurant.

My wife used to go into all the kitchens in the county as a sales representative, and she refuses to eat at ANY of the El Rancheros.
I wont drop any huge bombs here, but she saw things that made her not want to eat there!

Actually Casey, I did read through all the PTC restaurant inspection reports. Given the wringing of hands about Tinseltown's woes in Fayetteville, I thought it might be interesting to see just who had the lowest rating in Peachtree City. If that is not a topic of interest to you, that's no concern of mine.

In answer to your question about barbeque restaurants,
Cafe Pig got a 100
Smokey Bones got a 100
Du-Roc Cafe got a 92 (on a mandatory re-inspection for a previous 79-Rodent problem)
This is it BBQ in Fayetteville got a 97
Speedi-Pig in Fayetteville got a 97
Melear's got a 91
Barbecue Junction got an 81 (sewage system malfunction...hey that rhymes!)

If you choose your nights out by inspection scores - here's one you might consider avoiding when visiting Fayetteville - do they get the prize or headline award for Fayetteville

I have never had a problem at either place - friendly service - good food at a reasonable price.

La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant - score of 64

My brother-in-law worked for a health department in another state several years ago. To this day we have to check the inspection report at any restaurant we go to with him. He refuses to eat at an establishment with a score less than a 95!!!!

Westpark and Crosstown. This report is for the Crosstown location.

And most people don't realize that their own kitchens would score in the 60-70 range based on the inspections the health department uses.

Maybe so but they grade on the curve. If everybody else is in the nineties and they're in the seventies, that still tells me they're at the bottom of the barrel. What does it tell you?

All it takes is a look around. It's one of the nastier places I've seen, inside and out. Golf cart path comes up behind the restaurant, and the stench is overbearing.

I think you are a little hard or maybe have another agenda with El Ranchero - if you read the report and addendum (see below) there's no mention about improper food handling - employees issues - rodents or overall cleanliness.

They received the low rating for boxes not properly marked - a refrigeration unit that was a few degrees off spec (which can happen from opening and closing during busy times - ice machine and a soft drink gun ?

My guess from the date of the report they are back to their prior rating of 92 seeing that this was a report from earlier this month.

Deficiency:

Cat I 8) Small reach in cooler found out of temp (53). Cleaned out.

Cat II 2) As previously noted, need to clearly label all bulk food items.

14) a. Need to clean interior of ice machine. b. Need to clean drink

nozzels(especially Coca-Cola).c.Need to clean bar gun.

6) Need to replace bar gun drain tube. Do not allow to drip into ice bin.

I sure did read the report!

Take a look at line 37, for example! See that category "Roaches, Flies, Rodents"? See that big ole X marked right next to that category? What does that tell you, Casey?

That (to me anyway) is a pretty good indicator that one or more of those vermin were found on premises during an inspection!

Now, "Roaches, Flies, and Rodents" may be perfectly acceptable to you and your family, but I think I'll take my family's business elsewhere until El Ranchero gets re-inspected (which will be in a month or more, your comments about them being already re-inspected notwithstanding... How long did they take before re-inspecting Tinseltown?).

I suspect you skipped right on down to the comments (where they DID give an explanation about mislabeled boxes) and didn't read the main report. I don't have an "agenda", there was a valid reason for El Ranchero scoring as low as they did...Inspectors don't give scores that low for "mislabeled boxes".

I'm very familiar with the FDA and food inspection reports. I guess my point is that I don't see the fairness in posting a blog against a business that is title "dirtiest in PTC" unless you have reviewed the business and restaurant inspection report for all of PTC.

Sounds like a disgruntle employee or maybe received poor service one evening ?

Any idea how the barbeque restaurants in the county scored ? Talk about Line 17 on the inspection report marked with an X?
