Chick-fil-A coming to Kedron

The proposed Chick-fil-A restaurant to be located on the southeast corner of Peachtree Parkway and Ga. Highway 74 at Kedron Village received a unanimous nod June 12 from Peachtree City Planning Commission.

The Conceptual Site Plan called for construction of a 4,419 square-foot single-story building with 154 seats. Zoned GC General Commercial, the restaurant is to be situated on a 2.14-acre site that was cleared and graded when the shopping center was developed.

Based on the city’s recently amended parking ordinance, a minimum of 49 parking spaces must be provided for this development, equal to one space for every 100 square feet of gross floor area plus any outdoor seating area, City Planner David Rast told commissioners. The site plan identifies a total of 57 parking spaces, which meets the requirements, he said.

“This is one of those developments where we are not seeing parking all the way to the setbacks,” said Rast, adding that the development would preserve a significant number of trees.

The unanimous recommendation came with five conditions such as conformance to the city’s Post-Construction Stormwater Runoff Management Ordinance, provision of a complete set of building elevations and site lighting plans for review and approval and appropriate screening and landscaping of all exterior mechanical units.

I'm writing from Chattanooga where last night I saw the best live band of all time--The Allman Brothers Band--close the Riverbend Festival (followed by spectacular fireworks!). A favorite place to eat here is the Big River Brewing Company. Great menu, and beers brewed on the premises. (Their IPA is a gem.) They are owned by the Gordon Biersch Company, which also owns Rock Bottom (in Buckhead) and, surprise, Gordon Biersch on Peachtree Street.

I'm not sure our area would support it, being full of teatotalling baptists and all, but it would be awesome if such a place opened nearby.

Speaking of businesses not supported by this area, why is it that we cannot have something like a Fresh Market or Whole Foods? My wife and I frequented Harrys in a Hurry, but it left us in a hurry. The Intown folks in Atlanta flock to Whole Foods. Is fried preferable to fresh in our area? Is there a direct connection between one's political affiliation and one's culinary orientation? Most of the cars at Chic-Fil-A sport Bush-Cheney bumper stickers and fish emblems; the parking lot at Whole Foods is full of cars bearing the news that "Bush Lied" or of the Darwin amphibian (these same vehicles tend to be topped with Yakima roof racks with bikes or kayaks in tow). Somehow, it's hard to imagine a sticker that reads, "I Eat Tofu and Voted for Bush." Why is that?

And while I'm at it: Chattanooga has really become a WAY COOL town. The downtown area has so many public spaces--parks, fountains, restaurants, attractions. Their city planners definitely have a vision and it is coming to fruition. This is in stark contrast to the Chattanooga of the 1960s when it was labelled the "dirtiest city in America." I know that they don't have the natural resources to work with (a major river, mountain scenery, etc.), but if only the Fayetteville city planners would get a clue about what makes a great downtown a great downtown.

I have spoken to management at Whole Foods on several occasions about the need for a Whole Foods Market in this area. Actually, a Whole Foods Market was in the works for somewhere between PTC and the airport, but Whole Foods tabled the idea when Delta started having its recent troubles.

If you would like to see a Whole Foods in our area, contact the company and let them know! If enough people show interest surely they will return to their plans to build a Whole Foods Market on the southside of Atlanta - maybe even right here in PTC.

While I am thankful that our local Kroger and Publix supermarkets try to stock nice health food sections, they just aren't the same as Whole Foods and the DeKalb Farmer's Market. So every week or two I drive to Atlanta to complete my grocery shopping. And yes, the management of my favorite Whole Foods knows I drive all the way from PTC (and they are always very kind & helpful and on occasion have been known to give me extra discounts!).

Whole foods would never survive around here.

Do people in PTC even know what organic food is? I have talked to a few doctors in this town about organic food and they told me (in so many words) it was just a fad.

Are there any doctors in this town who actually keep up with the research? Ignorance abounds.

I was talking to someone a couple months ago who lives in a McMansion up in HighGrove. She was flipping out that she had to pay five dollars a month for a special email package she wanted. Highway robbery don't you think?

Whole foods can't survive in a culture that is so status driven. There are too many people here who own a $400k house, drive a Mercedes but eat at Chic-filet to save money. Priorities all backwards.

Can't wait till those ARMs start adjusting. I should be able to buy up your $400k over valued property at a bargain price once we have a few forclosures.

There is a sign at the intersection of Holly Grove and Hwy.74 saying future home of Chick-fil-A. That would make three of them.

It would seem that cows are safe here.

I'm so glad to hear about Chick Fil A! Maybe a McDonald's is next???? We can only hope!

Differn't? Get your humor
I still vote for a Krystal's! Yum Yum!

yeah,I was kidding. I would like some kind of cheapo seafood like Captain D's or I would love a Popeyes. Krystal would be ok too though. I remember when it was pretty much just Hardees or Del Taco here, but for crying out loud, I wish they'd stop putting in duplicates of stuff and open something different.

Spicy chicken please. Their biscuits...yum. And the red beans and rice are truly worth bloviating over. Fast food at its greatest.

I agree. Popeyes is tasty occasionally. Also we need a first class southern food restaurant, open for breakfast and lunch and dinner, using only fresh, clean products, and with professional cooks and waiters. People here would pay what it takes to run such an enterprise as that. No macaroni, no spaghetti, no $25 steaks, no chop sticks, no bread sandwiches, no $5.00 coffee, no TV's, and in other words a CLASSY Cracker Barrell. $10.00 breakfasts, $12.00 lunches, and $15-20 dinners. Free drinks, no alcohol, except beer. Serve soup and salad for $7.00 for those who don't want the whole nine yards. Notice free drinks takes of about $2.00 dollars per meal? Quality would make it work.

Do you remember Goldens in Fayetteville. That place was always packed and the food was enjoyable much as you described. What happened with Goldens? The restaurant you described is what many desire. Has anyone been to Cafe Pig in PTC. Their veggies and sides are awesome. Some real cookin. Problem is that it can be difficult to get into.

Goldens opened in Newnan several years ago. I haven't been through Newnan in a while so I'm not sure if they are still open. My parents live in Sharpsburg and they used to eat there every week.

We use to eat there often.

We were told they were closing because they were not making enough money.

They were in the shopping center with Radio Shack in it.

Closed a few years ago. I don't remember exactly when.

Where was this place, and how long ago did it close?
Does anyone know anything about the little place behind Century 21 on 85? Is it just breakfast, or do they serve lunch? If so, is it a meat and 3 kind of place? Thats what I'm looking for.
