Accused murderer Richard Nelson Brown has pleaded not guilty in the Sept. 30 murder of Senoia businessman Ken Crook. No trial date was set at the June 13 arraignment in Coweta Superior Court in Newnan.

The 50 year-old Spalding County resident was indicted on charges of malice murder, aggravated assault, two counts of burglary, possession of a gun/knife during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The burglary charges are a result of Brown’s intent to commit burglary at Crook’s home and at Crook’s Tire Center, according to Assistant District Attorney Pat Dutcher.

Public Defender Shauna Hill said Wednesday that the District Attorney and Public Defender were asked to meet to determine a date for the trial.

Coweta Superior Court Judge William Lee presided at the June 13 arraignment in Coweta Superior Court.

Prior to the arraignment, a representative of the Citizen Newspapers was informed by jail personnel that the media would be unable to be present at the proceeding.

Brown was a former employee at Crook’s Tire Center. Brown had owned a van that was identified by witnesses near the crime scene. He was arrested March 30 in Spalding County after the van was located in Gwinnett County and the ownership at the time of the slaying was traced back to Brown.
