Three Reasons to Vote for Eric Maxwell

JJSXU's picture

1. It is silly to hold the Sheriff accountable for tax payers’ dollars. He is an elected official and should not be responsible to the citizens on how he spends our tax dollars or drug money. He has the money let him be.
2. We need to be able to have signs and billboards just like Gwinnett County. It is our right to have as many signs and size signs we want and Eric will see to it that we have a sign ordnance comparable which permits unlimited number of sign like what exists in Gwinnett County or Riverdale.
3. We should not have to worry about protection of the environment, green space or the control of growth. As a lawyer and Judge, Eric knows what is best for Fayette County. Property Rights after all trump Community Rights. Land Use Plans are a waste of time and money.

I did because a friend told me what I would see. I drove up Hwy 314, which turns into West Fayetteville Road when you cross into Clayton County. Then I drove up Hwy 279, which turns into Old National Hwy when you cross into Fulton County.

The show of support for Greg Dunn and Linda Wells, who's signs sit side by side on the empty lots, were overwhelming. Your first impression might be that these appreciative landowners are showing support for these two Commissioners, who along with a third, Peter Pfeifer, have given these landowners hope. The hope of a ten million dollar park in their area.

Then I became confused. On these same lots were large signs advertising the land for sale to be developed by the landowners. Plats on the for sale signs promote how the land might be developed. I wondered how Mr. and Ms. anti-development get permission to put their signs on the right of way of these big acre lots. I guess Janet will explain it all to us when she reinvents herself again.

is really getting silly here. Trying to paint the candidate as something he isn't just doesn't cut it, JJ!

Protecting our constitutional right to free speech, as Maxwell did, is a noble and defensible cause, your comments are not. For some 225+ years the USSC has defended the right to free speech, and it's not going to be denied by the likes of Dunn/Pfeifer/Wells.

The fact that Maxwell is an attorney and a judge doesn't impair his ability to represent the citizens of our county as well as anyone else. He has been a citizen here for 38 years and has every reason to put the best interest of the citizens ahead of his personal agenda.

By the way, did Dunn/Wells/Pfeifer ever put the sign ordinance on a referendum and seek the approval of the citizens? Of course not, their only interest was to feed their egos by exercising power. With the help of a $$ hungry county attorney, they attempted to deprive the citizens of the right to free speech, which you too seem willing to surrender.

1. No it's not silly to hold the Sheriff accountable for tax dollars and that's what the court has done. Made the Sheriff accountable to the people and not five part time politicians who know nothing about drug enforcement.

2. No we don't need billboards on our highways but we do need to be able to support more than one candidate at a time with more than one sign in our yard during elections because there is always more than one commission candidate running in every election. That illegal ordinance was designed to keep the power of the current commission in tact, which we will see in July, is not what the majority wants. I notice Dunn and Wells are putting their signs in the same places which would have violated the ordinance they wrote and lost in court.

3. Eric Maxwell has never taken a stand or indicated he was against the environment or the land use plan. The Dunn/Wells camp has invented that because they have no good solid reason why anyone should oppose Maxwell other than the fact that he is an attorney. The Commission needs an attorney to tell them to quit wasting money on law suits they can't win. Sure you built a reputation that you will sue, but you also built a reputation that you can't win.

Obviously you validated my points with your first few words on each issue.

1. No it's not silly to hold the Sheriff accountable for tax dollars

2. No we don't need billboards on our highways

3. Eric Maxwell has never taken a stand

I had to read your "Valid Points" again to see if you really wrote what I thought you did-
Attacking a nice man like Eric Maxwell as you did with your third comment above is unnecessary-
Not sure if you understand blogging, but some comments are out of bounds-

agree - I apologize for my error and not reviewing the context of a word and it's different meaning prior to posting - I replied to a message with the word used in the same context as I meant - I was not trying to be ugly or disrepectful - I will be more careful in the future -

I wish the censor person would have caught my error - I would feel better

again - my apology

Why would the Citizen allow a post that says Mr. Maxwell can't take a stand when he fights the handicap of going through life in a wheelchair? That's not funny! You're bouncing posters for much less than that.

1) The Sheriff is and ALWAYS HAS BEEN held accountable for tax dollars. "Accountability" is nothing new and all King Dunn did was cost the taxpayer’s money!

To imply that we need King Dunn to hold Sheriff Johnson accountable is just plain stupidity. Dunn can't even take care of his own business, therefore doesn't need to stick his Yankee nose where it doesn't belong!

If you knew what you were talking about, you would know that there are county audits every year that the Sheriff has to comply with.

2) Billboards??? What??? Eric's not going to do anything to the sign ordinance... You're really stretching things now...

3) How dare you... Casey, if you are the kind of person who is supporting Greg Dunn, NO WONDER HE'S STRUGGLING!

An unsuspecting person might think these land owners are showing their appreciation by allowing Dunn and Wells to place their signs on the right-of-way just off of their land without fear of the signs being removed by the Marshalls.

After reading comments by Casey and JJSXU, I wonder if all Dunn supporters are as unethical as them...

By the way, they are THE SAME PERSON! Screen names created within minutes of each other...Never online at the same time...one asks a question, the other one comments...

Casey/JJSXU, go play on myspace or somewhere else where your comments will be appreciated!

Dear fayetteresident

Sorry to disappoint you and bust your bubble - Please do not judge if you have zero idea of what you are talking about. I have no alliance or connection to Dunn or Maxwell - I was expressing my views as a taxpayer and resident - I value people that are ethicail and not quick to judge. Sorry if my comments were offensive to you.

I take your second accusation as a person with low self esteem - your investigated work worries me as I have no idea what you are talking about as the Same Person or creating screen names ?? One screen name one person - no hidden agendas - I thought I was expressing MY view point - you can rest assured you made a mistake while sentencing me to go play on myspace. I believe this is the universal response / answer and sentence when an issue comes up that someone does not agree with.

You should be apologizing for your above statement about Maxwell, (#3)not pasing judgement on me!

Go sell it someplace else... I'm not buying!

I did not put what you were saying together - until I reread my earlier message.

I feel terrible and apologize to all that I may have offended with that statement. There was no intention on my part to be ugly or disrespectful to Mr. Maxwell. Sorry

JJSXU - thanks for providing 3 reasons NOT to vote for Eric.

I want an elected offical that will take control and ownership over the county budget and our tax dollars - and hold people accoutable for their actions and spending.

Billboards and signs ordinances must be regulated by the county.

We should all be very concern with the enviroment and what type of development is approved. We elect people to ensure the best interest of the county and its residents are the number one priorty - that is the reason the development plan had to be drawn up in the first place - to keep a plan with a goal and away from personal agendas

The issues are not as simple as he's been around and knows what's best for the county.
