Tyrone residents won’t have far to travel this year if they want some family fun on July 4. Town Councilman Grace Caldwell announced Thursday night the town is planning a big celebration for the country’s biggest patriotic holiday. The event is set for Shamrock Park, and Caldwell hopes to unveil a new attraction at the park that day. “One of the biggest items on the survey was that residents wanted the lake restored,” Caldwell said. Caldwell said a lighted fountain is planned for the lake, which would showcase the lake and also provide a nice entry to the town’s new library. In order to fund the fountain, Caldwell said, ribbons will be sold to the residents to help give Tyrone a patriotic flavor for the holiday. “We’re asking Tyrone residents to purchase the bows and either put them on their mailbox or we’ll place them on light poles along Senoia Road or place the bow in the park,” she said. Bows are $10 each and are either red, white and blue or yellow. For $25, residents can have names placed on the bows in glitter. The celebration runs from 4- 8 p.m. July 4 in Shamrock Park, and Caldwell urges residents to bring a picnic lunch to the festivities. There is also entertainment and speakers planned for the celebration. In anticipation of the big day. another clean-up is set for the park June 10. During the cleanup, a booth will be set up for residents to by the bows.
