Eagle Scout learns respect for mayor

I am 18 years old, an Eagle Scout, and a proud youth of Peachtree City. I would like to describe someone who has had a very positive influence on my life and that is Mayor Steve Brown.

During the summer of 2002, I had the fantastic opportunity to work as an intern at City Hall. My duties required that I closely work alongside and observe Mayor Brown. During my internship I began to get to know Mayor Brown and I have developed a close friendship with him ever since.

I admire the mayor for his exceptional work ethic and his outstanding leadership of our flourishing town. The extraordinary qualities that I observed in Mayor Brown when I was an intern give me reason to write this letter and urge every citizen of Peachtree City to support Mayor Steve Brown in his bid for re-election.

As a proud member of the community, it gave me great pleasure to read that CNN/Money Magazine distinguished Peachtree City as the eighth best place to live in the entire United States. This honor is something that our community did not earn overnight. This honor is a direct result of our city’s excellent leadership by Mayor Brown.

Mayor Brown taught me three years ago that if you lead ethically, in the long term, your results will be positive. The mayor’s continuous practice of ethical leadership is exactly why Peachtree City has become a great place to live for so many people.

Another example of how the Mayor has made Peachtree City a great place to live is the amazing number of new businesses (900) registered in our city in the last four years. This resulted in an expansion of our community’s tax base.

Mayor Brown’s achievements have been recognized even outside of Peachtree City. He was chosen by Georgia Trend Magazine as a “Rising Star” in their 40 Under 40 selection of great achievers in government in 2002.

Peachtree City is a better place for everyone because of Mayor Brown. For all of these reasons I encourage you to re-elect our Mayor, Steve Brown, on Nov. 8.

Philip Aftuck
Peachtree City, Ga.

No Aftuck family in the phone book. And we are supposed to believe that a teen age Eagle Scout has kept track of the 900 new business licenses registered in our city and he uses exactly the same wording Brown did at the forum?

Philip Aftuck indeed does exist, and is a delightful young man. He was an intern a couple of years ago for Steve Brown.

Our Apologies, Silverlining, for Mrs. Fritz's unkind words about Philip. I like to start from the proposition that people are good. Unfortunately, we have a few former officials like Mrs. Fritz and Mr. Lenox that act up and show hostility to perfect strangers like Philip. They were part of the council that prohibited the Scouts from using bows and arrow and BB guns. Have no fear, this is precisely why each of them was taken to the political woodshed. They don't represent City Hall anymore. Please accept the community's apologies. Good luck to Philip!

"I couldn't find Aftuck in phone book" is the same display of stupidity that Fritz and Lenox showed on the PTC council. They got on this kick of "If you don't vote, you don't count." They trashed on people. Being imbeciles, however, they never stopped to consider that some women maintain their maiden names professionally and their married names for everything else (i.e., voting). Fritz abused one super voter on the phone since she was too slow to figure this out.

More of the same Mrs. Silverling but they are now gone from City Hall. Please help us in our efforts to keep them out on their attempted return takeover.

Ethical...I think not! 900 "new" businesses, I think not! If you are going to write in support of someone, don't use their words. The "accomplishments" you cite are the very same that Brown also tries to cite. If you want to know the reality, look at his ethics violations. Look at his constant verbal attacks on so many others. As an Eagle Scout you owe it to truly research all the claims then decide. As an Eagle Scout do you find public attacks on a deceased and well respected citizen of our community, as the continued attacks by Brown on Tom Farr, as "ethical?" Do these attacks, innuendo, accusations, attempts at discrediting individuals, uphold the Scout Law? Nice try, but your words are too similar to his.
