Local seniors enrolled in the Medicare insurance program are invited to learn about a new plan that eliminates monthly premiums.

Vincent Beauford of Safe Harbour Financial in Jonesboro will hold seminars on the Medicare Part C program at the Fayette Senior Services building on four dates in June.

The seminars will last from 2-3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, Thursday, June 8, Wednesday, June 14 and Thursday, June 15.

Beauford said all Medicare participants in Fayette County qualify for the Part C program, which is designed to charge co-pays for each visit instead of the monthly premiums. It can be combined with a Medicare prescription drug plan, he added.

This is a commercial message disguised as a public service announcement.

Medicare Part C is generally understood to include the provisions relating to the Medicare Advantage plans, which are plans offered by insurance companies and approved by Medicare that replace and modify the normal ("traditional") Medicare plan. Meanwhile, Medicare pays the value of the traditionial Medicare coverage to the insurance company (as much as $700 a month per person), sometimes with an extra subsidy. The agents who push these plans earn large commissions, and their sales pitches are often called "seminars."

These seminar notices are no public service announcements, believe me!
