Landmark athletes rack up acclaim

The 2005-2006 school year was another banner year for Landmark Christian School athletics. Many Landmark athletic teams, players, and coaches received local, region, and state recognition throughout the year. Here is a round up of those awards. Landmark athletes come from Fayette, Coweta, Douglas, and South Fulton Counties.

Boys Basketball
• Region 5A All-Region First Team - Stony Hill

Wrestling
• Area Champion Runners Up - 103’ Chad Thames, 135’ Roger Gunter, and 189’ Tim Creamer
Third in State, Wrestling - 103’ Chad Thames

Football
• Region Champions, 4th consecutive year
• Football All-Region Honorable Mention - Matt Johnson, Scott Berger, Will Geeslin, Sam Brown, Will Bulger
• Football All-Region First Team - Matt Moody, Tim Creamer, Zech Glaize, Miles King, Tyler Chapman, Trey Strickland, Mike Geeslin, Jimmy Eden, Tommy Kinney, Nathan Hunter
• Associated Press All-State First Team, Football - QB-Matt Moody, WR-Miles King
• Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) All-State First Team, Football - QB-Matt Moody, WR-Miles King
• Region 5-A Offensive Player of the Year, Football -Miles King
• Region 5-A Defensive Player of the Year, Football -Tim Creamer
• Region 5-A Player of the Year, Football - Matt Moody
• 2006 GACA Region 5 Coach of the Year, Football - Kenny Dallas
• Northwest All Star football team for the GACA All Star Games - Tommy Kinney

Girls Basketball
• New school record for most wins in a season with 21
• Girls Basketball Region 5-A Champion
• All Region Team, Girls Basketball - Christian Hunnicutt
• GACA All-State First Team, Girls Basketball - Christian Hunnicutt
• Atlanta Tipoff Club February Team of the Month, Girls Basketball - Christian Hunnicutt
• All Region Honorable Mention, Girls Basketball - Diamond Hunnicutt
• Women’s Basketball Coaches Association 500 Victories Award, Girls Basketball - Coach Jim Waller (combined high school and AAU wins)
• Atlanta Tipoff Club 400 Career High School Victories Award, Girls Basketball - Coach Jim Waller
• GACA Region 5-A Coach of the Year, Girls Basketball - Jim Waller

Swimming
• Qualified for State Swim Meet in 50 free, 100 free, and 100 butterfly - Lauren McGuire
• New school Swim record for 50 free at 24.51 - Stephen Calsbeek

Volleyball
• Region Champs (6th year in a row)
• All Area Team, Volleyball - Ashley Mead, Mary Lacis, Leslie Adams, Vanessa Dunmore
• A/AA Player of the Year, Volleyball - Ashley Mead
• Area Player of the Year, Volleyball - Ashley Mead
• Senior All-Star Team and All State Team, Volleyball - Ashley Mead and Mary Lacis
• 2005-06 NCSSA Varsity Volleyball All-American Team - Ashley Mead

Softball
• Softball Region 5A First Team - Ashley Chastain, Emily Cone, Kat Strickland

Girls Tennis
• Second in Region
• Region 5A All-Region Girls Tennis Team players - Jasmine Smith, Halie Winfrey, Caroline Jones, and Lindsey Lantz

Boys Track
Individual Region Champions - Chad Thames 3200, Jimmy Eden 300 Hurdles, Jarred Crist Discus, Brett Lewis 1600
State Boys Track Top Finishers – Chad Thames 1st in the 3200 and 5th in Pole Vault, Jimmy Eden 2nd in 300 Hurdles, Brett Lewis 2nd in 1600 and 3rd in 800

Girls Track
• Second in Region and Second in State
• Individual Region Champions – 4x400 Relay (Kelsey Knapp, Christian McGuire, Heather Hayes, Christian Hunnicutt), Christian Hunnicutt Discus, Heather Hayes 300 Hurdles, Joel Christian Shot Put
• State Girls Track Top Finishers – 4x400 Relay (same as above) 1st, Christian Hunnicutt 2nd in Discus, 4x100 Relay (Knapp, McGuire, Hayes, Christian) 2nd, 800 Kelsey Knapp 6th, 300 Hurdles Heather Hayes 1st, Christian McGuire 2nd

Cross Country was left out, the Girl's won the state title!!

Yep, they were left out. That came directly from an email from Landmark and I missed it.
Sorry.
They were included in my sports year wrap-up column.
