The new look at Fayetteville’s Banks Crossing continues. Now underway is the renovation of the old Stein Mart building, destined later this summer to become home to a branch of the nation’s largest musical instrument retailer.

Guitar Center will occupy 15,000 square feet of the old Stein Mart with the remaining space in the 41,000 square-foot building going to a tenant yet to be announced. Atlanta-based Brannen Development is completing work on the building’s exterior.

Elevation plans show the the store’s front to have a rock base topped by brick and stucco. The building will be similar to the JCPenney store that opened in late 2005.

Interior work by Shamrock Builders is anticipated to be complete for the store’s opening sometime in August.

Owner AIG Baker has been renovating the entire shopping center during the past two years. Overall improvements to the development have included the addition of sidewalks and landscaped buffering.

Guitar Center has three locations in metro Atlanta and operates stores in 39 states. The company was founded in 1961 and is currently headquartered in Westlake Village, California. Guitar Center is a Fortune 1000 company.

Wow - THIS is the best news I have heard in some time. Guitar Center is WONDERFUL!

Finally, some REAL competition to the Attina's music monopoly in Fayette County. Time to go, Attina.

The worst news was when Fayette Music went out of business.

Mitch had an uncanny ability to find interesting high quality used instruments and to sell them for *very* reasonable prices. The shop itself was interesting. (The only bright spot: I might have gone broke had they stayed in business since they had so many good deals on acoustics that I couldn't seem to stop buying them!)

I confess that it would be interesting to have a Guitar Center nearby for browsing, but I sure do miss the sort of Mom and Pop shop that Fayette Music exemplified.

Where is the Guitar Center supposed to be located?
