Home Remodeling-HELP!

I'm looking for a reliable, honest remodeling company...need a few things done around my house, from knocking walls down, drywall, to installing kitchen cabinets.

Can anyone here recommend a good contractor who is reliable, does quality work and won't charge an arm & leg?

Thanks in advance!

Visit Kudzu.com and do a search for home remodelers. This site features reviews from people who have done business with the companies/people listed. I have found this site to be very helpful. I found a moving company and an exterminator this way, and both proved to be top notch. It also lists if a company is a member of the Better Business Bureau, always a good sign.

I would also demand any work estimates be made in writing before work begins so there aren't any surprises later. Always get it in writing.

See the Business Showcase in The Citizen papers..... there are a ton of great guys/businesses that advertise in it and have for a long time that do any and everything from home improvement to lawn and pool care.

I'm a repeat customer with a guy based in Newnan. His *primary* work is decks (and he builds **very** good decks), but he does about everything else, too, and has recently "acquired one of the best sheetrock and tile people in the area." He wondered if, in addition to the building of a new deck, I had any of this other work for this new man. I didn't.

I like this fellow a lot. He's from the Northeast, and is *disgusted* with the shoddy workmanship in this area. Definitely a cut above.

Prices seem reasonable with what I've had done (two decks on two separate homes). A 12'x12' deck with 6"x6" support and railing posts: between $2000 and $2500.

Reply if interested and I'll provide more info.

Here's his website:

http://www.superiordeck.com/

As I write, the project is nearly complete. Looking pretty good. They even used deck screws instead of the standard nails that most of the contractors around here use. Plus, the builder's original deck had the support posts (for a 2nd story deck) resting on a thin slab with NO FASTENERS WHATSOEVER. These guys jackhammered through the slab and poured footers for the new posts. It was good to see the shoddy work that the builder put up torn away and replaced. (Quiz question: What **crappy** southern crescent builder's name rhymes with "Bad Lumber"?)

It goes against my grain to *pay* someone else to work on my home. I renovated a Victorian home years ago and learned how to do about everything in the process. Then, over several years I installed good old unfinished nail-down hardwood upstairs and down in my *present* home. Result: my aching back screams NO MORE! So I was glad to run across this fellow.

Hope this will be of help.
