Plan submitted for large businessThu, 05/18/2006 - 3:19pm

Although representatives from Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse have met with Peachtree City planning officials, they have not submitted a site plan for a store here, according to City Planner David Rast. But a local developer is seeking to locate another large-scale building supply business here: Builder’s Supply Outlet. Mike Hyde has submitted a site plan for a 139,000 square foot building with an attached 32,000 square foot garden area, Rast said. Because the property is zoned for general industrial use, the plan may be doomed from the start if the intention is to sell to the general public. The city does not permit retail uses in the general industrial zoning category, Rast said. City officials have asked the company if the business will involve retail sales or not, but there hasn’t yet been any response, Rast said. The city’s Big Box ordinance, which limits buildings to no more than 32,000 square feet in size without special permission from the City Council, only applies to land zoned for commercial use. The proposed location is a 13.86 acre site in The Exchange industrial subdivision, located at the northwest corner of Ga. Highway 74 and TDK Boulevard. The site plan hasn’t been reviewed yet by city planning staff because a conceptual stormwater management plan hasn’t been filed for the parcel, Rast said. login to post comments |
