Starr's Mill and McIntosh girls to play for state soccer titles tomorrowFri, 05/12/2006 - 7:13am

State championships will be on the line for the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers (16-2-1) and McIntosh Lady Chiefs (15-5-2) on Saturday. Both teams advanced to the title game in their respective classifications with wins over ranked opponents on Thursday night. Starr's Mill, ranked number one in AAAAA, defeated the 10th ranked Collins Hill team 3-0. Gina Goforth scored the first goal for the Lady Panthers and Kelley O'Hara scored the next two, advancing the team to the state final to be played at Harrison High School at 7:30 p.m. Harrison (15-2) is ranked second in AAAAA and handed Starr's Mill a 2-1 loss in the first game of the season. McIntosh, ranked third in AAAA, hosted Marist, the top ranked team in AAAA, on Thursday and won 2-1. Goals for the Lady Chiefs were scored by Brittany Schneider and K.C. Hewitt. The win puts McIntosh in position to capture a third consecutive state title with a win. They will face Woodward Academy (15-4-2), ranked second in AAAA, on Saturday at home at 5 p.m. Woodward defeated Whitewater 3-1 on Thursday.
