TDK Extension on hold for grant

The long-awaited extension of TDK Boulevard from Peachtree City into Coweta County now hinges on the Federal Aviation Administration.

Specifically, the Peachtree City Airport Authority is seeking a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to purchase land north of the runway at Falcon Field. That will create room for the road to loop north of the airport and protect its runway safety area, which extends off the airport property.

There has not been any communication from the FAA about the grant request yet, said Falcon Field Manager John Crosby.

“I’m hopeful the FAA will fund us this fiscal year,” Crosby said.

If that doesn’t happen, it will result in a setback for the road project because of the timing involved on the land acquisition phase, Crosby said. Some of the necessary acreage is part of the Planterra Ridge Golf Club, and that land can’t be used for the road project until the new adjacent land is ready to golf on, officials said.

Officials have been negotiating the land purchase with Sequoia Golf and Pathway Communities, which also owns land needed for the project, Crosby said.

“We are in the process of finalizing our offer,” Crosby said.

The TDK extension will link up with McIntosh Trail on the Coweta side and Dividend Drive in Peachtree City, the main thoroughfare through the city’s industrial park. It has been in the works since March 2000 when the City Council approved the initial design contract for the road.

The city signed an agreement in February 2003 to have Fayette County build the road, with the city responsible for design costs and right of way acquisition.

But the most recent delay has been the most costly time-wise as the FAA indicated in March 2004 that it had a problem with the design of the road, which then was set to pass on a thin strip of land between Falcon Field and the golf course.

The FAA objected, saying the road location “would degrade the runway safety area.”

The extension in Coweta County is likely to open up large new areas for residential and commercial development.

One wonders.

Don't worry, our new mayor promised us the TKD extension was NO PROBLEM, he could take care of it. The previous administration was just holding it up.

You mean the same new Mayor that promised to freeze or lower taxes and expenses on the citizens? And already instituted new ones and approved a number of other expense increases?

Don't tell me he didn't. I was at the meeting he did. And admitted he was breaking that promise.

But, actually, this has been in work a long time. It didn't just start this year.

I hope it goes through.

First: get elected, lie when you need to do so. Then, after you get elected, do what you planned to do anyway, or, what your fellow so called "conservatives" those "value" people, and developers want you to do. Also there is a third triple dip pension in there somewhere.

Hey burnt one! Hope all is well for you. So when you say get elected, lie all the time, do whatever you want, I suppose your saying that one should follow Clinton's example?

Well, those antics are not limited to Republicans. Democrats are pros.

Further, that is not my kind of conservativism.

Then that makes it OK, I suppose. Can you imagine how bad things can get if one party stayed in power for just a few more years? Our national salvation has always been to kick the bums out before they take everything and cause the world to end. How about Iran tomorrow, North Korea day after tomorrow, Syria next week, Saudi Arabia----oooops, not that one---, Colombia next month, Cuba when Castro dies, anywhere in Africa ASAP, Pakistan soon, Mexican border just before the election, and on and on. Borrow it all from China and Europe, then they will own us. But, oil people will be rich and Cheney's money source, Halliburton, will do all of it by unbid contracts.

I don't like the way the Republicans are handling things.

But the Democrats are worse.

Not going to happen, but I would love to see new blood in, not from either party. One who stands for something; morally, ethically and firmly.

I am sick of government based on what gets one elected, not what is right.

So who is to blame? The voters.

when good people do nothing. With the smear tactics of running for a public office, where is this so-called "new blood" to come from? Who would want the aggravation and humiliation? We'd best bone up on the history of the final days of the Roman Empire 'cause we're heading there quickly.

Yep. Been aware of that for a long time.

But many are unaware or don't want to see that reality.

PTC Guy. We're in trouble. Look at the last election to replace the late VanLandingham. No on showed up to vote. Look at the Mexicans mocking us on our city streets and all of us sit back and whine. It shouldn't surprise any of us to read the garbage Bassmouth and Highone put out. These people live off others and have never had to fight to survive under any condition. The bottom line is no one cares anymore and they could care less what happens in and to this country. One day in the near future people like Bassomatic and his ilk on the left are going to gain control and if we don't comply they will force their way on us. The only tolerance they have is for their own thoughts. And when we've had enough and we're ready to fight to protect it will be too late.

And all of this ranting about Dems and Reps has what to do with the TDK extension?

If people would just stop feeling the urge to reply to every forum troll's comment, this would be such a nicer place...
