Chapman: Less fighting, more growth needed

By: Letters to the ...

For the past several years I have watched as fighting became the norm for almost every government entity in Fayette County, especially the Fayette County Commission. As long entrenched groups fought to maintain and expand control, the same old statements were made over and over again in its defense.

The current commission has prevented growth. They have prevented the sheriff from receiving federal drug money without their supervision and blessing. They have prevented the regional library from having any input into our local facilities. They have prevented cities from getting along with counties, and happy events dominating our newspapers. Any person seeking reelection to our commission can tell you what they are against.

Surely there is more vision in Fayette County, one of the brightest and wealthy counties in Georgia, than this. Surely we can once again live in peace and be FOR things that make our citizens better.

When I was growing up in this county there were few people. We had one elementary school in Peachtree City, and we waited for a big grocery store, hospital, and adequate library to arrive.

During my entire growing up years, my mom and dad took us to other places and other counties if a play or concert was indoors. We understood that we “didn’t have enough people” to have this or that service.

Times have changed. We do have the people. We do pay the taxes. We do deserve facilities comparable to Cobb and Gwinnett. We are not just about being against things any more.

I am a generation of new Republicans. I believe that we should be accountable for the taxes people pay. That means, at the end of the year, people should perceive that their lives are better off because we were good stewards of what we were given.

You are at a time of critical change for Fayette County. The County Commission can swing to being “for things” instead of “against things.” We can quit fighting and start building (with the attorney fees to start). We can create the kind of county services that match the sizable tax bill that we receive.

Your vote for me in the upcoming primary election will assure a new and more responsive government for Fayette County. It will be less about power and more about service.

Let me help everyone define Sam's term "New Republican".

1. It means "one that cannot get elected as a Democrat so they call themselves a Republican to become electable.

2. RINO - Republican In Name Only. These are the people in control of the Republican party for the last 10 years that run on Conservative principles but have betrayed their voting base.

3. The difference between New Republicans and Democrats is in name only.

Thanks Sam for all the warm fuzzies. However, many are tired of the Democrat re-treads that run as Republicans and govern like Democrats. Your letter has been oh so inspiring and I'm moved. Gee, maybe I could be blessed with violating the signs ordinances and putting some of your signs in the right-of-way like the other political hacks.

What's wrong with the "Old Repbulicans". Those for lesser government, responsible spending, enforcing laws on the books instead of creating more, local control, accountability, lower taxes, protecting our US sovereignty, protecting the family. I was accused earlier of riling people up. I'm guilty, mad, and bitter that the party I have supported all my life has betrayed it's base. I am proud to be an "Old Republican" unlike our Progressive Republican Sam.

Why do you put Linda Wells in the same catagory as these other two?
Sonny once held office as a democrat. Sam, thinks that development at any cost is good. Do you?

Has Linda Wells ever voted democratic? Has she ever displayed any tendency toward a democratic mindset or actions? If she has, can you give examples?

Did you think that post was directed at you? Do you think every post here on every subject is directed at and to be responded to by you?
Did you not read the title of the post from Joey J. Why would you worry about my conscience? Are you worried about yours ?

Gotta go with the cat....

Who the heck are these "New Republicans" ???? You make people feel good and warm ? What is this--- "Accountability Lite" ???

The Twins say "What was wrong with Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater?"

It's like Sonny and Linda--- they would still be Democrats if the wind was blowing that way.

Jack Smith is in the pole position as this race starts.

If you are more for service instead of power, why not run against Dunn? That's where the "power" problem is. Poor old Janet just rubber stamps his votes. If you were in Dunn's place, Janet would follow your lead and you could have 2 votes all the time.

More power, whoops, I mean more service.
