Firehouse Wings & More

I agree that their wings are fabulous, but I also love their sandwiches made with freshly bake bread!

My husband and I have only been residents of Fayette County for about 2 1/2 yrs now, relocating from Southern California. I am a former restaurant manager and my husband is currently a chef up in Atlanta....what we can't figure out is: EVERY restaurant we have been to with the exception of La Parilla, has the WORST service. What ever happend to taking care of your guests? These young waiters and waitresses act like we are bothering them by asking for extra napkins or a side of sour cream. I just don't get it. And Applebee's in Fayetteville is by far the worst in guest relations.

I've read some comments here about Big Daddy's and we may try them. My husband and I are so disgusted that we usually travel up into Atlanta to eat a decent meal. If anyone can offer suggestions for Fayette restaurants, please tell me! Thanks!

I do miss Ginza. Sushi Yoshi has been good but I don't know if they got a pouring license again. I've gotta have sake w/ my fish bait. I had a great time one nite sitting at the sushi bar. Kiku japanese Steak House in the Pavalion is good. Thai-Spice in the Avenue is good but a bit pricey. Hey, how about Frank's on I-85 in Palmetto? Valention's is OK but the Caribbean thing might be going a bit too far. Then there is Newnan. I haven't eaten over on the Court Sq in awhile but I understand theat 10 E. Washington has some good company.

I miss the Ginza too. What happened there? They had good fish. Gotta try Franks again. It's been years. I ate at the Thai-Spice and whatever I had like to have burned the lips off my face. I like spicy food but I honestly think someone either messed up or the chef told the other guys hey watch this guy over here. I fixed him up good.

The City Cafe and Village Cafe in Fayetteville is still pretty good but there's not much up this way.

Gotta tell you this about poor service. The bride and I were at Ruby Tuesdays in Fayetteville a while back. Went there just for desdert late on evening. Ordered coffee with our dessert. Asked the waiter politely for a spoon for my brides coffee. The waiter replied with a straight face and was as serious as could be.....Can't you use the fork. Guess he's back probably back on welfare by now.

Is that Big Daddys any good?

Big Daddy's is OK. It is probably the only place South of the airport to get raw oysters. Your fork story reminds me of 2 NYC waiter stories. Customer ask waiter what time it is. Waiter looks at watch then looks back at customer and says, "You're not my table." Other story was table sitting, getting close to closing time; they ask for dessert. Waiter looks at them and says, "You don't look like you need any." Having experienced NYC, i don't discount either as urban myth. See Windy, I can do it!

lol

I'm glad to hear there's a place for raw oysters. You don't happen to know if they're farm-raised, do you? I love oysters, but the stories you hear about the bad ones...

Actually very few if any people get sick in a given year. The same goes for eating pork "not well done." I guess we have to put our faith in modern farming / harvesting practices & the AG / inspection process.

I have become a fan of GA Shrimp Co. The gumbo & clam chowder are very good. I like the Shrimp Chili. Fish & chips

I enjoyed them to but didn't the GA Dept of Revenue close them down. And what happened to the Famous Fish House at the Avenue?

Submitted by bladderq on Sat, 04/29/2006 - 9:25pm.

There was some connection to Famous (which Dept of Rev did have an issue w/) but GA Shrimp is still open. They even started opening on Sundays. I still like Ted's. I think the bison pot roast is to die for. For lunch the best deal is Pascal's. The pasta buffet is a deal. It's great for a pricy dinner too. Haven't been to Christopher's, only open b-fast & lunch.

Is GA Shrimp still next to that Japanese restaurant? Are you sure it is still open? I passed there today and didn't see it. The GA Shrimp in Fayetteville got closed down due to tax issues.

I think you meant Chinese. You do know there is a difference? Probably not, judging from your other posts. Actually, I think they closed in Fayetteville over employee / help issues. GA Shrimp Co is open behind Chix-filet.

I think you have figured it out already.....you have to travel far and wide to find a good meal (and service) around here.
Have you tried Buckner's (south of here, off 75)? They have the best fried chicken in the state.

Go down to Senoia to Southern Home Cooking ....hit 85 south and take a left at GA 16 they are about 1/4 mile up the road...They have great service with a Country Flair. My steak was not up to par and I complained...they replaced my entire meal ...no questions asked...This was the first time in weeks that I any issue with the food and there was no question of making me happy...Great folks, good food...What about Speedy Pig..great food and good service...You want good service go to a good southern restaurant...if you don't like southern food move back up north...

Submitted by sissy on Sat, 04/29/2006 - 8:54pm.

First of all, they would be moving back west, not north (CA).
I think the point they were trying to make was that Fayetteville is sorely lacking in privately-owned restaurants, but not chain restaurants.

People up north and other cultured areas know good food. It has nothing to do with grits and greens. I am sure that is why you prefer the restaurant you mentioned, because it is not "cafeteria" style food.

Agree completely kitty cat. Take a hike sissy. What the shaved cat said is gospel. Go away and take your stinking yankee or valley girl attitude with you.
