Survey to address PTC growth, change

A citizen’s group is planning a survey that will help shape Peachtree City’s future for the next 20 years.

The survey will be distributed via mail to at least 500 pre-selected persons and will also be available online at some point, the Comprehensive Plan committee has decided.

Questions will cover a variety of topics, ranging from the emergency services to recreation needs along with commercial and industrial development. The city doesn’t have much residentially-zoned land left, so residents will be asked on the survey if they’d rather the city grow by annexation or instead grow by re-developing homes in older neighborhoods one lot at a time.

Much of the survey also deals with how residents use the city’s cart path system.

At the group’s meeting Monday, City Planner David Rast said the city has received a number of proposals from developers to put commercial developments on vacant property in the industrial park, but the city has rebuffed those requests.

The survey is still being tweaked and a final draft will be hammered out in the next few weeks so it can be printed.

David Rast does not speak for the city - he's an employee! Don't get that confused. A decision maker he is not. An extremely biased person, yes, for sure.

But do not confuse that with the city wanting to rebuff requests. Some of the "leaders" have not kept up with the times. The industrial park will be vacant for years unless someone grabs the bull (call him fu manchu - because the industrial park should be treated like a man who's dying - Kenny Chesney song, ya' all)

So, back on topic - get serious about how the industrial park should be developed. Waiting around for a user like Cooper Lighting will be 30 more years. Get creative - do something! Don't just cling to a 40 or 50 year old land use plan. And certainly don't listen to David "close the gates" Rast. He's history. Harold thinks he's a phony.

Get Clyde back in the house to plan the industrial park. Wake up Pat Murphy and get him focused on residential development for youngsters and seniors as well - mix in commercial - don't be afraid of it. Something like yuppie apartments or condos built around a Dave and Buster's would do real well on Highway 74. So would a senior's project like a mini-Sun City. Think outside the box, people.

Respond to the survey will real comments. Tell them what you want.

Why only 500 persons? I thought any good statistics are based on at least 1,200 samples? I suggest to allow all PTC residents to voice their opinion as to where this community should be headed over the next 20 years.

500 "pre-selected" persons are nowhere near enough!

Yep. 1,200 is minimum to have any credibility. And it is suppose to be random.
