I thought Paris was from Peachtree City

Tonight, they-her Grandmother who she is living with, says she is from Minnesota, but came to ATLANTA for her final senior year....

ATLANTA? I thought she was in School in Sandy Springs.

I want her home address checked and booted out to the Fulton County School System as soon as possible. We shouldn't be paying taxes so that Fulton County Children can come to school in Fayette, especially when they disown us.

Then again, I hope she does well, cuz' she sure can sing.

Alright, I have to chime in here. Paris Bennett moved in with her grandmother, a resident of Fayetteville, last year and was attending Starr’s Mill High School (legally) before moving out to Hollywood to compete in “American Idol.” It is not uncommon for someone to refer to Fayetteville, Peachtree City or any other suburb of Atlanta as “Atlanta” when speaking to people who are not from here. People know where Atlanta is, but Fayetteville isn’t exactly on the national map (besides the fact that there is a Fayetteville in almost every state). I don’t think it was odd or an attempt to “disown” the community when her family said she had moved to Atlanta not Fayetteville. Also, it’s a shame to see people use this inaccurate information from one person to begin yet another diatribe about an unrelated subject.

As a side note to DWP33, what “riot” are you referring to? Were you at the FCBOE meeting that “everyone” was going to show up at and complain about all these supposed illegal students? Probably not, and if you did go, you were alone because that group that was up in arms never showed.

PLEASE! The other contestants on IDOL were very specific - Albermarle, NC, for example. This a suburb of CHARLOTTE, but they didn't sell out by saying they were from CHARLOTTE! I say that if she's from Minneapolis, let the Minnesota people support her as local. If she's from ATLANTA, then let the ATLANTA people support her as local. The "local connection" thing irks me when ANY of the local media play it that way. ANY tiny thread that connects. We have LOTS of other people FROM Fayetteville doing much greater things for the local community on a daliy basis that deserve a lot more praise and notice than this "temporary" local girl. Let's see the citizen dedicate an entire section to REAL LOCAL HEROES instead of Paris!

First of all, I don’t think anyone has referred to Paris as a “hero,” but there are a lot of people (including myself) who are happy for her success. You may not be a fan of the show or a fan of her, and that is perfectly fine. However, I don’t understand why you feel the need to detract from her (who I am guessing you don’t even know) success.

In regard to your statement, “Let's see the citizen dedicate an entire section to REAL LOCAL HEROES instead of Paris!” I will tell you that The Citizen ALREADY DOES have such a section. It is called Names & Faces, and it runs every single Wednesday. It can also be found right here on The Citizen’s Web site. If you have nominations for a feature story, please email them to Names&Faces@TheCitizen.com.

She's not from Fayette, and its obvious she won't be here for long. So why praise her like shes the best thing since sliced bread?

I was there at the past 3 meetings. My mother-in-law was the only one who got up and spoke about the issue. We've confronted the BOE several times about the matter. One time at the meeting, and several times on the phone. I't took us forever to get any answers by phone. Ive gave them numerous tag #'s and have actually investigated a few on my own with the capablities I have. I have found instances where the studen was truely an illegal student. This was months ago. Guess what? The students are still there. Why hasn't the BOE taken care fo the matter?

I heard she lived with her grandmother in the Starr's Mill High School district where she attended for a very short time before going to AI.

but if you know her grandmothers full name then go to fayette countys website and look her up on the property tax side. But rest assure BOE won't do any thing about illegal students. Theres already been a big riot about it, and they showed there true colors about the issue. I figure atleast 700,000 dollars have been stolen from Fayette county tax payers, due to illegal students coming in and stealing services. What can we do?

Students can pretty much go to school where they please, and have for many, many years. Just more now and mostly minorities or athletes. They can stay with relatives in the county, or pretend to, or just friends. An address is the important thing. I recall similar things 60 years ago, especially for athletes---one Doctor I know had a whole houseful of football players living with him. Another thing is that more children now do not have what we used to call regular parents: that is they have only one parent, who usually works all of the time, and a grandmother, or a friend, or, simply live with who will keep them for the time being. Many don't understand the words, "who are your parents now." Generally within a culture they are asked "are there any grownups around?" Divorce has doubly complicated this situation for the kids. So, why don't one of you decide how to handle it?

Sorry for just butting in, but I would like to asure everybody that Paris is from Fayetteville. She was attending Starr's Mill High School before Idol. By saying Atlanta, she was mearly refering to the area, and since she only lived in Fayetteville for a year, it's probly just easier for her and other people who have no idea where Fayetteville is to say Atlanta. It's only 20 minutes away from the city anyway.

This Blog is about as mindless as watching American Idol on TV or reading about Jeff Carter's love for the lawless ones.
