Tinseltown food score improves

Not-so-dirty movies?

Things are looking up at Tinseltown Movie Theatre in Fayetteville. A third follow-up food service inspection by Fayette Health Department April 4 noted a significantly better score than the two previous inspections. The Fayette Pavilion theater received a score of 83 during the April 4 visit, a far cry from the 54 on March 29 and the 50 scored on March 23.

The April 4 inspection cited far fewer violations than the two most recent inspections. The four categories cited for violations involved the need for more cleaning of the main snack station, including the ice machine for mold growth, a continued sign of rodents though a much better job had been done in cleaning rodent droppings and the need to replace items such as missing light reflectors and broken floor tiles. Inspection comments noted that a significant amount of cleaning had been done.

Remarks by health inspectors during the March 23 and 29 visits cited numerous violations resulting from conditions that included the presence of rodent feces and urine, grime and dried-on food on some surfaces, unprotected beverage cups left on shelves with rodent droppings, rust on the inside door of ice makers and mold in ice machines and bins.

Attempts to contact Tinseltown Manager Brian Ortega and Cinemark Vice President for Communications Terrell Faulk at the company’s corporate office were unsuccessful.

The improved scores will not negate the June 20 court appearance in Fayetteville Municipal Court where food service violations from March 23 and 29 violations will be heard. Tinseltown has the option of pleading guilty and pay a fine or pleading not guilty and receiving a bench trial, city court officials said.

A Jan. 31 food service inspection of Cinemark Movies 10 at Banks Station in Fayetteville resulted in a score of 84.

I have been to both of Cinemarks movie theatres in Fayetteville, I find it odd that Movies 10 has a better score then Tinseltown both theatres are very, very gross. The help is rude at both theatres and I will never go to a Cinemark movie theatre again. Thank God there is a Hollywood Video in the Pavilion I can get movies at.

Who even goes to the movies anymore? I fail to see the big deal with this. Much less why it is front page news.

My husband and I went to Tinseltown one time and that was over a year ago. There were people in front of us eating chicken wings and french fries. My husband and I sat through a few minutes of smacking lips and sucking each finger until we moved to another area. When the movie was over, we passed the aisle where the diners had been sitting and noticed the boxes and chicken bones on the floor. Now I can understand why there is/was a rodent problem and more than likely, roaches too. I'd rather stay home with our DVD's, popcorn, and Milk Duds!

So you get 83 out of a 100 when the Health Dept finds "the need for more cleaning of the main snack station, including the ice machine for mold growth, a continued sign of rodents?"

I know I won't be visiting Tinseltown anytime soon. I' almost certain that the extra man hours spent on cleaning the snack area and bathrooms left the actual theater rooms even more nasty! Thank goodness for affordable Home Theater equipment and movies coming out on DVD within months now!

I really don't understand how a big chain like Cinemark can let a fairly new theater go down the tube like this. Nasty theaters like this are the real reason for the decline in movie theater revenue, not "movie piracy"!

You are right about the decline in movie theater revenue- cleanliness is one thing, but trashy movies, the audiences they attract and most of all the rude behavior - starting with cell phones and ending with crotch-grabbing and loud laughter all contribute to my 9 year absence from a movie theater.

A DVD in my home theater (which cost 10,000 times more than 9 years of movie tickets would have)is well worth it.
