I went to watch the McIntosh boys and girls soccer teams play the other week at Whitewater High School. I had planned to sit with some friends whose children play for Whitewater. They are friends, golfing buddies from years ago when our kids played together on a Lightning team.
But I was forbidden to do that. I had two elderly [ladies] inform me that under no circumstances would I be allowed to sit with my friends.
I was told that I was REQUIRED to sit on the visitor’s side with my daughter and her boyfriend. This mandate, we were told, was because there was some sort of trouble, the week before, at the Starr’s Mill game. No specifics were given, but apparently subsequent visiting teams are going to be punished for it.
How dumb is that? If the SM kids were doing something illegal, they should have been removed. If it was just a case of the WW parents not wanting to listen to the victorious, gloating SM fans talking smack: too bad!
I understand that the principal, Greg Stillions, sent down the edict. That figures. The guy is a piece of work. By way of analogy, this is like having your business robbed and the guy gets away; so you have the next person who comes into your store taken to jail and punished.
I pay a huge chunk of change from my property taxes every year to support the school district and pay for the bonds that built that school. Stillions has no right to tell me on which side I can or cannot sit.
If the parents don’t want to hear opposition cheering, let them use earplugs. This needs to be fixed immediately or it will be time for a trip to the FCBOE offices to pound on some desks.
