To the 1,522 Fayette citizens who cast their votes for me to serve as your next county commissioner on last Tuesday, March 21, 2006, I say, “Thank you!” It means so much to me to have your support and for you to believe in the bright future of our county as I do. I promise to always strive to represent you to the best of my God-given ability when given the opportunity.

I owe a special thank-you to all of those who also took the extra step of supporting my campaign by giving a contribution: Thank you.

To all the supporters who put signs in their yards and who assisted me in placing signs throughout the county, thank you. For the supporters who stood in the cold and the rain to wave and hold my campaign signs, thank you. For the supporters, who took their time to call family members, friends, and associates in Fayette asking them to vote for Emory Wilkerson, thank you.

I must also thank all the members of the local Republican Party for the way in which they have always embraced my campaigns by supporting and encouraging me. I am truly grateful for your support.

It is easy for anyone (including me) after an event to look back and second-guess how things could have been done. However, I refuse to succumb to what we often refer to as armchair quarterbacking or the more common notion of hindsight (which we all know is always 20/20).

Sure, there are things we should have done differently in this campaign, but in then end, all good leaders are willing to live by the decisions they make and move on.

Lastly, I have made some new friends along the way. Each of you know who you are and I am so glad that we met and I look forward to making some special memories with each of you. I especially look forward to my walk in the forest of a VERY special person who embraced me like a brother. We can’t wait to smell the spring flowers and view the goodness of God’s creation with one of God’s VERY special people. Thanks, Fayette County!

Good for you to take the high road. That one slip you made about "white people" is forgiven. You show class and I hope you run again for public office.
