I have really enjoyed working with our current City Council. Obviously, my opponents in this campaign are not going to celebrate our accomplishments over the past four years. Being rated the eighth best place to live by CNN/Money Magazine was a great honor. Even better, Peachtree City was most affordable place to live and had the lowest crime rate in the top ten. We had an astounding 900 new businesses registered in the last four years! The multi-billion dollar Cooper Wiring headquarters moved to Peachtree City. Our retail is red hot and the industrial sector is progressing nicely. We witnessed the largest growth in the history of our aviation business sector in the last four years. I have a heart for our kids. I participated in local school math, reading and writing programs and spoke to over 60 classes, scouts and home school groups about municipal government. Our Community Action Day included landscaping improvements to McIntosh High, Booth Middle, Huddleston and Braelinn Elementary. I sponsored the creation of the city’s first ever Peachtree City Youth Council, providing very successful social and community service opportunities for teenagers and I founded the Mayor’s Internship Program for rising high school seniors. We are also creating the Teen Court, a program giving youth misdemeanor offenders a second chance through community service. Governor Perdue helped us regain the golf cart driving privileges for our 15-year-olds. Upon entering office in 2002, we inherited a tax equity lawsuit, a service delivery dispute, a jail impact fee dispute and a jail inmate fee dispute. In less than two months in office, we had reached an agreement with the county on the jail inmate fee dispute. I agreed with my predecessor on the tax equity dispute. However, we did eventually get the county to agree to pay an additional $100,000 per year for recreation and build a park on Kelly Drive. The county and city signed an agreement for the construction of the TDK extension now hampered by objections from the FAA. We came to an agreement with the county on dredging Lake Peachtree. We partnered with the county on funding the furnishings and other costs for the Clayton State University annex. We entered into an agreement with the county for implementing severe weather sirens in our area and established an intergovernmental agreement with the county for them to repave our streets at a reduced cost. login to post comments |
