2 projects approved for Lexington Circle

Two new developments for the Lexington Circle mixed-use development were approved by the Peachtree City Planning Commission Monday night.

The plan drawing the most interest from nearby homeowners in the Lexington Park subdivision was for a liquor store called Katie’s. After meeting with city staff and a representative of the commission, the new plan moved the truck unloading area from Marlbrook Lane to behind the store, said architect Jim Finney.

The new plan also moved the building closer to the property line in keeping with the feel of the development, and parking spaces that were located directly off Lexington Circle were removed, Finney noted.

Some residents said the commission needed to look at the parking spaces off Marlbrook Lane, as that is the main road into Lexington Park.

Finney said he could look at making a nearby crosswalk into a speed table to slow down vehicles, and that was one of several items he pledged to work with city staff on for the final site plan. Finney was also asked to look at the location of several parking spaces near the entrance, which will be directly adjacent to the entrance for The Village at Lexington Circle, a mixed-use development that also won concept plan approval from the commission.

The Village at Lexington Circle will have a mix of commercial and office uses along with 34 residential lofts. Parking for the lofts will be in a secured area on the basement floor, and there will be two elevators in the facility.

The lots will be sold for roughly $130,000 and will vary from between 800 to 1,200 sq. ft. They will be marketed towards recent college graduates who want to move back to Peachtree City but can’t yet afford to get into the housing market.

The retail/office space will total 17,854 sq. ft and the lofts will total 31,394 sq. ft.

The developer hopes to start construction in the fall. The architecture for both developments must be approved by the Lexington Circle architectural review board.

Is this the same Jim Finney who used to be on the Planning Commission? Is it appropriate for him to be representing an applicant before Planning Commission? Is he now a lobbyist as well? What happened to the Steve Brown conflict of interest rules? Why isn't Harold Logsdon watching this?

If they are going to sell $130,000 lots to college graduates, I think the affordable part of this idea goes away. Did you or they have something different in mind?

Although being next to a liquor store adds value for college people. I know it did for me.
